My partner has very poor reception at home with his 3 network phone. So he wants to get an iphone but will move over to O2 because I get a great reception at home with that network.

It this thinking OK.. or should he stay with 3 and upgrade to iphone great deals???? We want a good reception at home.

If you get a poor reception with 3 there is no point upgrading with them to a "great deal" its only a great deal if you can actually use it!
  • It's amazing how many people on here do it, though. The post usually goes something like this: I was about to leave <insert network name> because I get rubbish signal and their CS is appalling but they've just offered me a great deal on the <insert name of latest trendy phone> so I've taken them up on the offer.

It beggars belief, to be honest.

Yeah it seems so strange, it makes far more sense to spend an extra couple of quid and get something you can actually use! For some people 3 are ok but personally I wouldnt touch them because of their service.

As well as 3's bad reception they also have poor 3G service.
I have an iPhone 4 on O2, they are the best and I get signal everywhere!

They are very good and are worth the extra money :D

Thanks everyone for your input. You have put what I was trying to explain to my partner in great words... Why pay less for something that you can't use?!!!

We have a lodger (he has just arrived home from work) & he has a new SonyE phone and his reception is very poor at home. 3 said that getting a new phone is very likely to improve things but that is wrong.

I have worked out that comparing both 3's 24month contract and O2's 18month contract then going on a cheaper deal with O2 for the remaining 6months.... my partner ends up paying an extra 88p a week over the 24months for a better reception and he can also use hotspots in cafes! Plus an extra 100mins.....

this is correct though to a degree, i am with 3 and had a htc hero and in my house it shows as full bars signal, where as now i have a iphone 4, in house it picks up 2 bars signal maximum, it has never caused me a problem mind, ncever dropped a call, can always connect to the net, but as soon as i step foot outside it goes to maximum signal, and a few years ago i had a sony erricson phone, could not get a signal anywhere in my house or in my town, even though my old nokia was showing full signal all the time, so signal can vary from model to model strangely, mind you i dont think i would risk locking myself into a 24 month contract to see if the iphone has a better signal, because with 3 as soon as you put your sim in and turn on the phone to find it has no signal, it is too late to return it to 3
Take every day as it comes!!

    I've been with 3, T-Mobile and O2.
I can't speak for all of 3's customers, but I struggle to get strong 3G signal, as do many others that I have spoke to.

    Hahahahahaha. I'm 13.

  • I say this to my customers all the time when checking their coverage at home "we may have the best deals in the world but if we cannot offer you signal then it's not good"

if one network offers you 5000 minutes for £20 p/m but you cannot get signal anywhere you need it

but another network offers you 500 minutes for £40 a month and you get full signal everywhere you need it

then the second network is a better deal for you. Don't let price fool you the price is only as good as the coverage you need.
  • I've had an iphone with O2 since launch and the signal has alwats been pretty poor to non existance so swings and roundabouts I guess!
