How to deter dog pooing in my garden

24

Comments

  • Step 1.......beg or borrow video camera for a few days.

Step 2.......find out where owner lives.

Step 3........put mess through owner's letterbox

Might take a bit of time/detective work, but it's worth it - been there and done all of the above!

If its nice weather (wishful thinking) put down a sprinkling of garlic powder & chili powder - one sniff of that up their noses usually does the trick - downside is the rain washes it away.
  • Our Lane is a target and one neighbour recently put up several notices along his front fence telling dog owners to not use his front grass verge as a Toilet. His property is the first without a pavement.. just grass and so a bit of a hit with local dogs that are let off there leads at this point.. The situation has improved but not 100%. Mr Old has often said if he saw where they lived he would go and do a large one outside there place...he has some front but think that would be an unlikely event...I think posting it back through the letterbox is much much better justice like Norma did....Mrs. H

Allegedly, and I do NOT condone this behaviour, but the alternative to Step 3 is wrap mess in lots of newspaper, leave on doorstep when owner is in, set light to newspaper, ring doorbell.

You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

The only thing we found that stopped our garden from being used as the "local dog Loo" was "Get Off crystals" which we got from the Pet Shop

    See here for info:

There's also a product called Pepper Dust, which I found works very well.

I used small twiggy sticks about 6 inches high in the problem areas. Just stuck them in the ground so there was nowhere they could squat without getting a poke if they tried to stop.
If you see them take digital pics of dog & owner, you can pass onto council. Of course the thought you may do that is probably enough to encourage the owner to be more responsible. Either that or they'll decide to post it through your letterbox!
I have heard that garlic plants can help deter, but that may be cats only.

Does anyone know of anything that can be used indoors? My dog has taken to releiving herself upstairs in the kids rooms and bathroom, dispite walks out, the place stinks.

BTW she is healthy so isn't a health problem, I think she is just being lazy or a pain in my backside.

See my previous post. She has marked out certain areas in the house as a toilet. So she will wander around the house, sniffing out "the toilet" and pee there.

You will need to completely clean the affected area and remove every trace of dog pee.

In addition, you need to "catch her in the act" and give her a very sharp "NNOOOO!!!". Remember, you can only scold her if you catch her in the act - she simply MUST associate the rebuke with the wrong act. No point in "talking" to her later and trying to explain what's wrong. You must scold her precisely at the point when she pees and not a second later.
