I have such a wonderful MIL. We went down the market and I was on the look out for a cheap 'going out' outfit as SIL has invited me on another 'girlie night out' and my nice skirt got trashed at the last one. lol...
Ok so maybe I was a bit optimistic.. I took a £10 out of the bank because my personal spending budget for the week had £8.01 left... and I needed to get baby food and blue milk which I forgot anyway...
I came away with...
New top - £10
New 3/4 trousers - £12
New handbag - £5
New watch - £3 from charity shop
Top gear game - £2 from charity shop
Dora the Explorer trainers for Ash - £6.99
AND a cbeebies magazine for Ash..
All of which MIL paid for! I ended up spending £4 for baby food and some drinks in our local co-op, £1 on some cookies I bought before meeting up with MIL and £3 for MIL to get some wine which I literally had to FORCE into her pocket or else she would've have taken it. Don't get me wrong I love her to bits and am so grateful but she's got money troubles herself and I feel guilty for her spending so much money and although I kept saying no she wouldn't take it for an answer. I didn't want to insult her but what can I do? I know I wouldn't have been able to get those things myself as I couldn't afford it but she wouldn't take no for an answer OR let me give her some money towards it!!!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Hi IA, I hope your not feeling too guilty.
At the end of the day your MIL is an adult and is more than able to make her own decisions about money issues.
BUT you could do what we will be doing in the near future and once all our debts are gone and we have saved up the money, we are going to steal one of her bills (COMET CARD) that she pays for monthy and I am going to clear it without her knowing - till it's too late for her to stop us anyway.
I was a naughty girl cos i went snooping while hubby distracted her and I found the card with stupid interest rates, obviously i put it back for now otherwise she would panic when she could not find it to pay this month. We will tell her as soon as it is paid off.
Hope that makes you feel a little better and maybe give you a nice idea too.0 -

I read your diary most days and think you do a good job, as do all DFW.
I must say i was a bit shocked to read that as well as buying a bass you also took the one from freecycle. There may have been somebody out there just as desperate as you were for it and you took despite having already brought one. If nobody else wanted it then fair enough.
Oh dear. I really didn't mean to offend anyone. As i said in my original post if nobody else wanted it then fair enough. What IA does with it now is up to her this wasn't my concern.
I have read her diary from the begining and yes she does do a good job, but she really doesn't have it as hard as alot of DFW do.0 -

Every DFW has it hard and it isn't really fair to say someone doesn't have it as hard as others. IA has worked extremely hard to make sure her family become debt free and we really don't judge people on how hard they have it. I suggest you read the whole of this diary just to see what IA has acheived and how hard it has been for her.0
