try a little village hairdressers, my one near my parents used to charge me £6.50, the cut was decent enough and the people were brilliant
used to give me tips on how to do highlights and lowlights myself, like thos home kits but do the bleach bit first and then the colour dye that way you can bleach all the dye off if you leave it on too long
it's easy enough to do them, i got my mam to help me do the back, and just used two clips to hold my hair in sections
have never paid for a dye since i was 14 and i always use my boots points to pay for my hair dye
hope i've helped, i just need to learn to cut my hair myself now heheHSBC CC - £3000 / £3000

- allow yourself the £4 a day that Steve gets and it will soon add up so you can pay for your hair doing (even back date it). Your hair will make you feel so much better and upbeat and goddamit girl - you deserve it. Think about yourself for a change and allow yourself a treat. Wheres the debt going to go - nowhere - it will still be there, if needs be I'll send you the money myself.
Ok, rant over, sorry
I kind of disagree, if she did keep £4 a day for treats that's £120 a month (so before tax somene would have to earn £160ish at £6 an hour that's over 26 hours work  ); the reason the debt is coming down and she's doing so well is because she realises stuff like this. The piece of mind that comes with having enough in reserve to cope with an unexpected car breakdown etc is priceless and I think the amazing progress made is more than enough reason to feel better, upbeat and in control. The debt is going somewhere because of her scrimpings - it's going away and it won't still be there... look how much has already disappeared. Yes treats make life seem better but the self-satisfaction of knowing you're in on a secret (that incomes being less than outgoings means security, choices and opportunities) lasts longer. I love the thrill in life of small continual victories not lining someone else's pocket with £88, getting BOGOFS, earning rather than paying interest. It's a big long term game - a race, for every person who spends £88 on a haircut, £70 on SKY, buys tat on credit I'm comparatively richer and smugger! :j Mrs. B-B. once flew to Spain on Easyjet and went to Toni and Guy there (the Barcelona branch had a half-english stylist), spent the afternoon on a beach and flew back the same day (god awful flight times) for a cut n colour for £60 for haircut and flights including taxes (although they've gone up in recent years - the flying taxes) - same cut n colour would have been £120+ in UK, if you do want to spend silly money on haircuts girls at least be creative!!! There's always a loophole and a small victory to be had.0 -

IA-Can I say it's to your credit that you've not got cross with any of us when we've criticised Ste and his spending.
I think ZTDs link is a brill idea, at least go and have a look at the bottles that the offer is on.0 -

Yes, I understand though I only meant to keep the £4 daily until she had enough money for her hair. Whilst I do undertsand the need to pay off debts (I am currently doing this myself and saving every penny) I do think that IA needs to make herself feel better and as well as the debt doing this, she has to have something for herself. She has done so very well and has just given birth, has two children under 2, is suffering from PND and works hard to pay her debts off, she also has a partner, who by her own admission isn't on the same wave length as herself. As a woman I know the good effect having your hair done can do for you, its more than having nice hair. IA has said she can't afford it so there ends the tale so to speak but she also needs to know how much she is admired and respected and supported and if she did have her hair done then we wouldn't judge her or be disapointed in her. The drive to be debt free has always been her aim and I will support in this whatever happens. I just sometimes feel frustrated for her.
Thank you for the comments though0 -
Hello Sarah
I have been following your thread and think you are doing so well. I have a friend that is struggling through lack of money but she does not have your "get up and go". I had a money making idea for her and she just poo pooed it. I must admit it is not for everyone.
So this is my idea. How about doing waxing? You can buy all the stuff from ebay, the outlay is not huge. It could be done in the comfort of the clients home and some people would prefer that to going to a salon. Another plus, hair keeps growing. You may have to do a short course to get some sort of certificate and would probably have to have some kind of insurance. I am positive it would make you a steady income with hours to suit your family. It seems to me it could be a good solution for you.
Hope that helps.

i've wondered if you can make jewellery & sell it (You did do a jewellery course didn't you IA or was that someone else mmmm must stop reading so many threads!)0

I think yes its great to lose the debts but sometimes along the way you need a treat. a hair cut (and one every 2 years is not excessive!) is something which can give you a boost, and reading IA blog here she can do with a boost.
maybe just look around for cheaper ways to do it. our hairdresser does cheap deals if you let one of the apprentices do it. my heart sank for you when I read how upset you seemed to be at spending a few pounds on yourself when your husband doesnt seem to be making the same changes to his lifestyle.
IA dont knock staying at home to bring up your kids. its the hardest job in the world.x x x0 -

I'm not saying that she shouldn't set aside time/money for treats/me time etc. However I just think in long run that should probably be within the overall household budget, rather than a guilt buy of clothing etc. Clothing is essential, shoes etc need to be replaced so long term there has to be acocunted for. However overall the last month has been really costly, xbox, birthday, tv, extra driving lessons for the household and I think saying we can't afford something isn't something to be seen as a negative or a deprivation but as a really positive thing.
Long term I think Sarah should include something in the budget for herself, even if it's only keeping back 'free money' from click-through sites or quidco free trials. I think in general a lot of people forget how wearing having £2.39 to your name and knowing it has to last 2 days... it's horrible haivng no money and if life's too spartan you can crack and it's like those YO-YO slimmers of the year (2 years later - size of an elephant again).
What's nice is we all have these conflicts and different attitudes and most people overly defensive of own situation and Sarah guides through a nice discussion where we can consider such matters.... I imagine it's hard for Ste working in a boys toy shop with lots of single young men all comparing their latest hardware and I imagine in comparison he is terribly frugal and probably feels comparatively hard up. I think comparisons are often what make us judge situations rather than how well off we really are.0 -
Morning all. Was going to post last night but didn't get time. Steve got a bit upset last night at the comments about him on here. He feels like everyone's picking on him for spending money on his lunches etc at work when in reality he's cut his spending from around £10 a day on rubbish to £4 a day on just food. He thinks that he's the bad man because everyone on here seems to be judging him on that he spends about £4 a day. He works really hard and although he may not be on exactly the same wavelength of my obsessiveness he has had to make sacrifices too and is getting better. It was his idea to start the £2 fund and he's every bit as excited about paying debts off as I am it's just that he's rubbish with money by his own admittance so he's more than happy to let me control things and tell him what to do, so to speak.
Oh and please don't read this post wrong... I'm just saying what me and Ste talked about last night and this is in no way meant to say we're annoyed at anyone for whatever reason. I just wanted you to be able to hear from the man of the house as well as me! lol!
Barnaby you are right about Ste's job. He constantly gets his nose rubbed in it by people who spend stupid money on cds/dvds/games etc and it can't be nice for him especially when we have to save up or trade in his other games to be able to get what he wants!

Oh forgot to mention that the TC went in today so the dotty p's debt fund is up to £159.93... plus the £31 on friday from ebay now that it's not going on my hair.
Have sent off the complaint letter to HMV. Am going to wait a couple weeks to see what they say before putting the knackered xbox on ebay which should hopefully make us another £30-£50 to go on debt.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
