  • my sister in law used to be lactose intolerant but swears by something called lactagen I got it for her from https://www.lactagen.co.uk and it apparently trains your body to accept lactose, though can't be sure if that's all.
  • it doesn't say how though, or have a list of ingredients. the body can be trained to start making it's own lactase through being exposed to it in increasing amounts.

My DD was breastfed but when I started weaning her at 6 months she had a bad reaction to cow's milk with hives all over, swollen eyes, temperature etc. I was really scared as I have bad nut allergy and these are the first symptoms. Anyway rushed her to the GP who prescribed anti-histemaine and referred us to the paediatrician. The latter said to keep milk from her diet and prescribed nutramigen. My dd loved it! Anyway we discovered she was allergic to egg too as we put some egg on her hand and it swelled up and was covered in hives.

We saw a dietician and her help was invaluable. She suggested things like rice milk with added calcium and this is great for cooking.

Anyway the good news is that by the time she was 4 we gradually introduced cow's milk and she is ok with it. Just recently we have introduced cooked egg (i.e. in cakes, biscuits) and she seems ok too.

Must say though it can be very stressful if you have a child with an allergy especially as they start going to parties etc and you get mixed reactions from people and health professionals too.

I have a nice recipe for a dairy and egg free chocolate cake, if anyone is interested just PM me.
