Hi, DD is 5 months and been exclusively BF. She is a guzzler and was finding it hard to express enoght milk. So I bought some SMA Gold cartons two weeks ago. Well after 2oz she had a bight red rash with white lumps all over her face, neck and back.

We took her to the doc and said it was weals, did a search and its better known has nettle rash or hives! Anyway GP gave me LF SMA to try and the same thing happened but not as bad.

Now I have soya SMA Wysoy to try! Has anyone else had this happen to LO?
How do you get a test done for food intolerances? Going to start weaning in a few weeks and would like to know. Thanks
  • My son is allergic to milk&egg, but growing out of it!

    So there's hope!

He used to get red rash with hives but now eats cheese, etc, with only mild redness. He's just turned two and has been on Alpro Yoghurts, Rice milk, Wysoy, etc

Never used Nutramagen, is extremely expensive if you can't get it on prescription.

Got loads of recipies if anyone wants a specific thing please contact me!
  • hi, it sounds like what happens to my daughter when cows milk is in contact with her skin, (red blister type rash very angry looking). I breast feed her until she was 13 months old (weaned at 6 months) it was when we started weaning that we noticed the rash, doctor then refered us to a dietician, which we didn't get to see until 13 months old, by then we had worked out anything containing any cows milk (which can be listed as other things on packets) will see if i can find the list for you, brought her out in this rash. She also has the reaction to goats/sheeps milk. I would say you are best going back to your doctor, they will probably refer you to a dietician.

My son was also on nutramigen and did really well on it. However he had a thickener added called Carobel. Have the twins been checked for severe reflux. No matter what my son had he was sick if it wasn't thickened. The dieticians do a brilliant job and were a godsend with our son. In the end he was severely intolerant to dairy, lactose, wheat, gluten and soya. I sympathise with you as it is really hard. I have been really lucky as he seems to be outgrowing it and he is only nearly two.

I give my son loads of broccoli as it contains calcium.

    Hope this helps.

I m I being thick hear :o I know breast milk is diffrent to Cows milk but isn't it very simlair, so why intolerant to one and not both?
  • cows milk is different, but i have no idea how, maybe someone out there could explain. My daughter and me are lucky in a way because i could still eat dairy products and it didn't seem to effect her! i know a lady who had to cut all foods containing cows milk out of her diet while she was still breast feeding!!

I think i definitely depends on the baby. My son NEVER settled on breast milk and had all the intolerance symptoms. Up until eight weeks old he NEVER slept for more than one hour at a time as he was in too much pain.

  • i think your right there, all babies are different. It would be a strange world if we where all the same........
  • we haven't seen a dietician yet but are on the list, but when she spoke to us she mentioned a milk made from potatoes - have you tried that one? i don't know the name of it sorry, and mine is intolerant to lactose and not to the milk protein, so our case is completely different.

but he doesn't have much dairy now, i was told after 12 months they only need 9 oz per day to get all the calcium they need. could yours get enough calcium from other sources? broccoli contains more calcium than milk and it's better absorbed. sardines, tofu etc. also contain calcium.
