Wow congratulations to both of you. Now I need to try to follow your lead next year.

Embrace the memories that go with each object that you assess (I like the idea of would you take it to Australia) and remember that those memories can never be taken away - even if the material part of it is gone.

I have to say that for me the hardest and yet the most empowering moments were that last few minutes when the house was completely empty and I walked around (alone) checking that all of the windows were closed and the doors were locked and remembering that moment when I moved in just before the removal van arrived. Be prepared for that moment but I promise you as hard as it is it will allow you to walk away from the house taking only the best of memories with you.

How exciting that you feel so so so at home in the new house. That is the best feeling. Only two weeks to go YAY.

Yes, I think it is the fact that this big chunk of my life is well and truly coming to an end. I loved being at the new house last night, and can so so so see myself being there properly. But of course before I move in, I have to deal with all of the old stuff, all of the past and that is a bit *gulp* like!

If only I could just walk out of the old house, leave it all behind for someone else to deal with, and walk into the new one starting afresh.........!!

Ah well, skip arrives tomorrow - will be a good step forward!

These two posts brought a tear to my eye.

When it was time to leave the house I grew up after 25 years (I didn't actually remember living anywhere else) my Mum and sister were in Australia and I had to move on my own (Long story :rotfl:). Whilst living in that house my two brother's had died, my father had died and my nephew had died, my two sister's had left home to be married. I was so sad as I walked around saying goodbye to all the familiar rooms and so scared that the good memories would be left behind. :( How amazing did I feel when I woke the next morning and they were all still in my head :T

Anyway, sorry for having a little wallow in the past :o

Hypno, I really think there is something lovely about moving in just before Christmas so that you can start 2011 with all of the carp behind you :D

I was just about to say the same Taxi. So many heart warming posts today, even if they are also mixed with sadness, the human spirit is strong and resiliant :T

I felt like you did before I moved Hypno, and I didn't have all the other stuff to deal with, so no wonder you feel shattered.

You *are* getting there though :)
