I budget £60 per month for petrol (I don't have far to travel for work) and am not going to increase it, so it means I will have to think carefully before taking the car anywhere, we will be walking to school more often, especially as the weather improves.Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

We spend £100 quid a week on fuel and have no means of lessening it.

We have a car but I don't drive it (Mainly because she's very old and I'm scared she'll breakdown) and I have a buspass to use to get to work which costs me £42 per month. We only put about £20 in the car each month unless we're going away somewhere. The cost of fuel at the moment is horrendous in Edinburgh - £1.30 for diesel - but my parents live in the north of Scotland and it's even worse there.
Our car tax is due this weekend so I'm only renewing it for six months as I think the time will soon come where we have to decide if having a car is worth the expense. Bah...0 -
I wish I could live without my car too, but where I live there is almost no public transport worth talking about. We do have buses, once an hour, and the trains are also once an hour. But I would not be able to get to mums at all, its only about 3 miles away but is along a busy country road with no pavements
It would also be impossible with getting ds to friends houses / swimming lessons etc, and in my eyes that would be a form of poverty if we were then excluded from certain activities that we enjoy because we couldn't get to them.
I think if you are a 2 car family household then it is worth considering whether to cut down to one, but for me it just isn't even an optionMortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

Live in the middle of nowhere so no public transport, need 2 cars. 1 is diesel £1.34ppl and unleaded £1.30ppl. Life is a challenge, its a !!!!!! when you spend more on fuel than on food per week and we are a family of 6.

Diesel here hit £1.40 yesterday and since all the fields are waterlogged and the lambs are having to be barn raised at the moment food prices will be horrendous later in the year. Nowheres been ploughed because its too boggy and what little winter crops there were have rotted in the fields, I fear everythings going to get very expensive very quickly.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Off to do the airport run shortly - filled my car up with petrol for the journey yesterday and was horrified that it now costs over £70 to put a tank of petrol in
It has been well over £80 for me for ages. I guess I will have to see how much it is now, as I've been running on fumes for quite some time...Diesel here hit £1.40 yesterday and since all the fields are waterlogged and the lambs are having to be barn raised at the moment food prices will be horrendous later in the year. It is unfortunately. Food being a global market, and nowhere is safe from the chills of global warming.

I too live in the country and it is very difficult to get anywhere as public transport is rare. I only live 7 miles from the nearest big town but there is no way that I can be without a car as I live at least 20 minutes walk to the nearest bus stop and then they are only every couple of hours. No shops in the village either. It seems to me that when living in the country people have to have a car or they are deprived of basic activiities such as swimming etc for kids. I no longer have a car and I was going to buy myself one but we have decided (for now) to make do with one but when Mr C gets another contract I will have no option but to get another car as he will be working away during the week. It is so difficult and diesel here just hit £1.35. That is at Morrisons too in the town so that is cheap!!

Can't see the cost of fuel getting any better soon due to all the unrest in Libya. We spend a fortune per week in the cab...£150 on quietish week...£220+ if really busy..luckily it's all deductible but really eats into the profit.
i put £70 in my car and try to use it as little as possible at the moment0 -
Have arrived home....coffee kept me going nicely - bumped into a friend at heathrow too which was good so we had a bit of a natter over coffee while we waited for our respective flights - his son was on a flight that landed 5 mins after my son's....
