Grrrr to Barclays c*ck up, but thank goodness it came to you
Many years ago, before automation, my sister and her OH split up, sold the house & she moved home to Mum while she gutted a cottage. She had stashed her half of the money away in the Building Society and was moving money around as required.
We went in to the bank to check the balance on her account and she was £2k overdrawn, almost 3 months salary in those days . She asked why they had A) allowed this andnot informed her.
The answer? There is sufficient money in your husbands account to cover it, would you like us to transfer it over? :rotfl:
The accounts clearly showed they were living at different addresses
Have to say she was never any good with money but even she could not believe she was that far overdrawn. Luckily, after being made redundant 3 years ago and choosing to take a part time job at half her old salary she is working to a strict budget, has no debts, will be mortgage free in 5 years and is so much happier.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

Bank got it back from him but only after I sent them a solicitors letter. It took weeks.
Of course it was before MSE days and I didn't demand compensation, if only I knew then what I know not. But sure how many times a day do we say that
When I left XOH, it was in such a hurry I didn't have an address, so redirected everything to Mum's address. But Lloyds TSB took weeks to get his name off the account and in the meantime bank stuff went to old address until his name came off, so he got new cards and spent on them. Again, pre MSE.

Morning Hypno. Another good day planned for you there. Also the holiday sounds really lovely. I have always fancied the South of France so it would be nice to hear some reviews from all of you who have already been, might help Hypno plan days out too. It is so good to see that you now "have a life" beyond the rubbish of the last few years you have had to deal with. It fair warms the cockles of my heart as they say.............erm somewhere.
Re the mix ups with banks, I had been divorced 12 months, seperated for 2 years and paying single rate council tax. I always paid it off by December each year (it was my way of being in control as I can be a control freak ) Anyway, on 22nd Dec I got a letter from council tax demanding 2 years arrears for the council tax and calling me into an interview. I thought that there must be a mistake as they had made lots of mistakes previously. When I rang they said that I had been defrauding them as I was not single but refused to give me any more information until I was seen by a fraud officer. Well, I was in work at the time and I just broke down in tears and it was as if my whole world had crashed. Thanks to a supervisor who spotted my distress and, with my permission, phoned them straight back turned out that they had run a credit check because I had paid up early and discovered a link to xoh at my address. It was for a joint account that had been closed several years earlier and so obviously never used. I never got an apology. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Re Barclays years ago my sister received someone elses bank statement and really went to town on them because if that one had gone astray hers could have gone to someone else, break down of privacy etc. About two days later she had a massive, beautiful hand delivered flower basket and either £50 or a £100 compensation (this was early 90s so worth even more then) and a letter of apology.
My other sister who worked for Barclays at the time wouldn't believe her till she saw for herself as she said they never apologised let alone gave anything away. We never did find out what she said or did but it obviously worked.0 -
I had flowers about 18 months ago from Barclays, when they messed up on my loan repayments one time.....we shall see if anything comes from this latest debacle!
Just home from the football - a looong day! No goals, but a point is enough to take us to second in the league....we would be happy with that position come the end of the season! Also, I won the sweepstake on the coach, and came away with £47 as a result
Very tired now, but have made a cup of decaf, will drink that and head off to bed.
