I bought a book earlier this year on a whim from ebay for about £5, flicked through it a couple of times, listed it last week, and sold it for £8.50! The buyer was a US based buyer, so I thought I might have to fork out for postage over there. It turns out it he wanted it posted to a UK address, so a massive bonus there!"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0

ehallett wrote:Another great buy I had once was a Monopoly Party Xbox game. I bought this from Makro for £20 and got £35 for it on Ebay.
This is a really rare game for the Xbox so keep an eye open for it.

We have this for the xbox but it's not an original so there's no chance of selling it on ebay.0 -
A friend told me that my local Game had Devil Dice (rare PSone game worth £15-20) at £2.99, but it was gone by the time I got there.0

Any tips on what type of parts tend to sell?
Obviously not a complete engine or gearbox :rotfl:
Something small/cheap to post?
I got a set of heated leather seats out of a Ford Mondey which was about to get crushed for £30. Managed to sell them for £256 on the ebay. Cost £35 in diesel to deliver them in Essex in my mates van and also get to see a new part of the country. Seller was over the moon that we delivered so soon after the auction as well (ended Thursday, we delivered on Saturday). Real genuine Ford leather mondey seats retail for £1200 so we both win. About to get a full leather interior for a 306 tomorrow for £150 Im sure I can sell for much much more (mate reckons £500+ but i think this is a bit optimistic)
Mirrors can also be a little bit of a profit maker and are very simple to post. Got some modified mirrors for a pug 306 for £5 and sold them for £30. Simple to take off (take about 3 mins) and postage was £5.
If you get really lucky like I did you will find some cars have CD players in them which have not been removed. For example one car we looked in had a nice middle spec alpine cd player in it. Purchased it for £15 and sold it for £105.23.
But for somebody starting out I would recommend small parts such as mirrors, steering wheels (watch out for airbags) and aftermarket gear knobs, pedals or similar items.
Also I should add that scrap yards are dangerous places sometimes. Watch yourself as scrappys have disclamers which don't hold them accountable for damage caused to persons or property. Wear sensible shoes (walking boots) and dress approval.
Most scrappys will also lend tools to you to remove parts from cars.

Scrap yard disclaimers are pretty much useless. Read about occupiers liability to see why. Good of you to share your tips Andy and very interesting reading about your success story.
I recently advertised to buy a secondhand xbox and the one i bought seems to be a collectors edition. Its a Tony Hawk Underground 2 Xbox and I got it for £40 but have no idea of its value and have never really used ebay. I checked ebay but it is not for sale as there was only ten made and given as prizes. I might try and sell it as a friend told me it could be worth several hundred although i think that is unlikely..0 -
The only thing of note I've deliberately bought off ebay to make a profit from was a very rare pet shop boy back cd's sampler. I used to buy rare records/cd's and knew PSB stuff usually sells well. No one had bid on this sampler so I was the only bidder (poor description helped me!). I paid £9.70 including postage. I put it back on ebay 2 weeks later with picture and good description and sold it for just short of £170 plus p&p! :cool:0

I used to buy job lots of classical CDs from the wholesale section, split them up and re-list them individually in the CD section - once bought about 300discs from a house clearance bloke for £160 and sold them on for anything between £2 and £20 each. Opera box sets used to do particularly well.0

My husband's old rock t-shirts; I'm gobsmacked at how much people are willing to pay for them - £109 for two! Will keep an eye out now on car boots....
