as someone mentioned earlier its all about the exhcange/equipment/ distance/ etc so people are going to have difference of opinions..

its the same as av packages.. people will have there own experience with different packages and so people will always disagree....

people can offer there opinions but that dont make other choices right or wrong... at the the end of the day its what suits you best..

just take a look at what your usage is, and whats available to you, and look at the options from there..

It's true that the line length governs the maximum possible speed you can get but it most certainly isn't the only factor in what speeds are actually achieved and it is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to the quality of customer service or prices charged.

Where you are right is that there is no single answer or "best" ISP for everyone or even one person as their circumstances change. I'd struggle to think of any situation where BT would be best option though.....
  • I use BT, never had any issues, but I pay a bit more than that for it :S

Hard to say what their minimum cost broadband would be in comparison.

I have had limited problems with BT, I do alot of online gaming (see sig :P) and my connection is often better then many of my friends on other networks, its more stable. I pay for unlimited package with them so i don't have to worry about how much i download. I would avoid talk/talk and my friend is always moaning about Virgin, the amount of times we have all died in the game thanks to Virgin haha

It isn't a survey. It is just a series of rankings of their ISP made by visitors to the site. I'll agree it isn't in any way scientific but I fail to see how the number of votes cast can materially affect the average of those votes which is what is used for the rankings.

when i attempted to rate my isp it gave me a couple of questions to answer - that is a survey in my dictionary

Just an observation - Virgin come bottom in the ISP ratings page linked to earlier.

I'm guessing it's Virgin ADSL you are criticising as Virgin cable is normally able to knock spots off any ADSL in most areas although you can be unlucky with them too (and their CS is in the same league as BT's by all accounts).

I meant it was not any formal survey undertaken by that web site but skipping the semantics what about your other assertion? Why would the average of a greater number of ratings result in a lower score?

One poster on here says BT has an indian call centre and one says they don't. I'm looking to change from Orange because of this issue. I was thinking of BT, but if they have the same quality of "support" as Orange I won't bother. I spent half an hour on the phone to them this week and it was beyond frustrating. When I asked the man to speak more slowly in a vain attempt to understand him, he just started shouting which made him even more unintelligable.

I got my elderly and slightly deaf Mum a connection with Namesco because they are UK support only, she'd have no chance with Orange.

If I had to name a worse ISP then BT, then it would have to be Orange...
