Sky connect is dire so if you was on that and not the Sky LLU (which is excellent) there is no surprise you had bad service

i would be surprised if you got even half as good of a service with BT as you get with Zen as they are one of the best ISP's (although more expensive) really it all depends on your usage limits you require and who is actually availible at your local exchange pop your details in here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker and let us know what info it gives you about the LLU services at your exchange

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I suspect you were on Sky Connect which is dire and that site doesn't distinguish between it and their excellent LLU product sfaik.

I very well may have been, nevertheless it's a little odd that on the same line another ISP can be quicker for downloading, strange! :)

not really it all depends on the equipment and the servers, and i expect from what i have read that the Sky connect servers have too little capacity to cope with the amount of people on them, as Sky have pumped most of their money into their LLU servers so that the LLU gets the best service.

Sky Connect is a non-LLU service running on the BT network, so I would expect it to be considerably slower and worse than the Sky LLU product.
It's no good just saying ISP 'A' is better than ISP 'B'-it totally depends on what is available on your exchange-no nation-wide generalisations can be applied. Which is why your first port of call should be samknows.

Initially I went with a limited bandwidth deal on BT, which had provision for charging me extra when I exceeded it. I found out I'd exceeded it when the charges hit me on my bill. I phoned support/billing, and was told they'd e-mailed me to warn me about this. I'd had no e-mail, and asked which address they'd sent it to, since I hadn't provided them with one. "Your BT e-mail address" she said. Apparently the account came with this address, which I hadn't paid any attention to, since I wasn't going to use it. She seemed to find it quite amusing that I'd missed the e-mails they sent, and I'd term that exceedingly poor customer service. I upgraded to the no-limit package.

There's occasional drop-outs where I have to unplug the router for a few minutes - that's annoying.

There's been one total failure that necessitated a call to the Indian Call Centre. That's always frustrating.

Perhaps if you had you wouldn't be with one of the worst possible ISPs.

Really? i get much higher speeds with BT where i live then with who I was previously with and have never encountered any problems with them for a couple of years now.

Its always on and if i work from home i use it quite intensely for what i do and even the upload speed is decent.

Why should I change to anyone else?

Because BT are one of the most expensive ISP's on the market?

Because their data allowances on all but the premium products are inadequate?

Because if you do get a problem, their tech support and CS is inconsistent and often dreadful?

Because they pioneered the wonderful concept of 'auto-renewing' contracts, which are the subject of so many complaints on this board?

So there's 4 reasons to change for starters...I'm sure others can expand on that list.

Because their data allowances on all but the premium products are inadequate? But they are far more than adequate for me as i work from home a lot and use it intesively

Because if you do get a problem, their tech support and CS is inconsistent and often dreadful?as yet have not had a problem with them

Because they pioneered the wonderful concept of 'auto-renewing' contracts, which are the subject of so many complaints on this board?Again an inconvenience for others but not for me

Well as i have outlined above and in other posts they provide me with a good service so i have no need to change.

while im aware other people may not be so fortunate not everyone has massive problems.

Nobody is trying to persuade you to change.

My responses are intended to point out to the person that started this thread that not everyone shares your love of BT. In fact quite the contrary - everyone who has taken any interest in the broadband market and joined a number of broadband related forums will have seen certain ISPs collect large numbers of repeat complaints that are often specific to them and built up a good idea of which ISPs are the lemons.

Well, I had to take them to the small claims court to get them to honour their end of the contract.

And then take them to court again to get them to honour the terms of their own out-of-court settlement :rotfl:
