  • Actually, democracy is not the same as majority rule.

Perhaps the students should just vote for a party that promises to abolish tuition fees. Oh, hang on... (BTW my building is in lockdown right now, so I have plenty of reasons not to like this sort of thing).

BTW, students have paid tax in childhood, such as VAT.

According to the argument made above, perhaps babies should be charged for midwifery because they have not paid tax? Bizarre argument!

The best way to fight this is to boycott university altogether, now or in 2012.

Some people really don't need to go to university - I remember temping in a call centre before I went travelling in 2003 and there were a fair few full time graduates then.

Just get an extra three year's work experience and no debt and you'll be in likely a better position than if you were a student.

Not so bizarre, students "choose" to go into higher education, a baby does not choose to be born.

In 1997, a lot of people voted for the labour party. The labour party's position was that it would not impose tuition fees when it gained power. A few weeks latter, as practically the first thing it did in power, they imposed tuition fees.

In 2010, every single liberal democrat MP signed a pledge to vote against any increase in tuition fees. A few months later, they are going to renage on that promise.

It is hard for me to believe we live in a democracy. If we lived in a democracy, people would have the balls to be honest to us before the election.

Anybody that thought voting lib dem was anything more than a protest vote was obviously a bit dim. This has now been proven.

So you're saying anyone who votes for anyone other than Labour and the Conservative party is dim? That's hardly the sign of a democracy. On a lot of issues, you can split the difference between their policies with a hair.

I was one of the first cohort to pay tuition fees. I remember plenty of demos and occupations back then I can assure you. I may have even participated in a few!
