Thank you Yummy-Mummy-Amy and everyone who has contributed to this thread. I stumbled across it and am now hooked! I teach a Year 3 class and was a bit worried they were rather cynical about Christmas and may be starting to doubt the existence of a certain jolly man in red. I needn't have worried as, when I explained to them last Friday that Santa had written to me asking if they could help train one of his elves, they were more excited than I have ever seen a group of children in school become! I was bombarded with questions and had to think on my feet with the speed of lightning. Thanks to you lovely people, many of the answers had already been provided for me on here.
There was a bit of panic when one of the children asked if the elf would be like one of the angels in Dr Who, which apparently pretended to be toys and then come alive with laser beams in their eyes to kill people! I explained that Santa would never send us anyone like that, he only has loveable, kind elf friends who help him make toys and the elves are only cheeky and mischievous not wicked!
I explained that we would have to get the classroom ready and write a letter to Santa to say we would like to help and I have never seen a group of children so keen not only to write a letter but to do it in their very best handwriting. I had to chuckle when one little boy (who finds writing very laborious and usually does the bare minimum) wrote a long letter which ended with, "Please could you send us the most naughtiest, most cheekiest and most mischieviest elf you have please Santa?" I think he is hoping such a naughty elf will make him look like an angel in comparison! :rotfl:
I have had a lovely weekend getting my elf ready - much nicer than the usual paperwork I spend time on. My teaching assistant is also in her element and we plan to spend Tuesday evening after school transforming the classroom into a winter wonderland for our elf.
We've named our elf Fizzy Tumbleflump Merrycracker. The Tumbleflump and Merrycracker came from an online elf name generator but the Fizzy was the name I came up with as the children were fizzing with excitement!
Thanks again.
Your post is so heart warming Nenen. My DD is also in Y3, she still very much believes in Santa (and even the tooth fairy!), but I do worry about other children spoiling the magic for her. I'm hoping the elves will help keep the magic alive for a good while yet!0 -
Thanks Knit Happens and Yummy Mummy Amy, I'll check those out. AND what an ace idea about the gingerbread reindeer. We are definitely going to do them!0

Hey everyone!
Am just in the process of getting all our bits sorted ready for this years visit. We don't have an elf(we like to be different in this house!) we have a Snowman called Snowy Sugar-socks, so if you'd add him to the list would be grateful Amy. We are also having a new addition this year, a penguin. Snowy is still in the attic and we've got a busy week planned so will struggle to get him down!!! Soooo the penguin will be turning up in the usual way(door bell rings, dad runs away!) and after a few days Snowy will reappear to keep the penguin company. Only problem is I am really struggling to think of a name and until I do I won't be able to make his passport and letter(which I've sat down to do tonight!) But I shall let you know when I think of one so you can add him to the list also.
I've also just made Snowy a facebook page as our eldest has recently got into computers, and I saw that you had all done it and thought it was a brilliant idea! So if you would all add him that would be great! Just search Snowy Sugar-socks, again I shall let you all know when I make a name up for the penguin and you can add him too!
I'm off out in the morning to hunt around the pound shops for things for him to have in his box when he arrives. Very pleased someone decided to make a thread again this year, I had much fun on the one last year! xxx
Ps.would looooooove to do a Christmas card swap with other elf's, my children would adore sitting down and writing cards for that!
FINALLY DECIDED ON A NAME! Just added all three kids names into a generator and added them together...so we now have
TWINKLES BLINKY-BUBBLES
So if you'd add her to the list please AmyAnd if anyone wants to add her on facebook I'm just making her a page now so give me about 10 mins and she'll be there!
Oh, and after a discussion with hubby we've decided Twinkles is going to also be a snow-women(I brought four teddy's from tesco's last night, a santa, snowman, penguin and reindeer, three for xmas presents and one for 'elf' antic's so we've switched around!)...like I've mentioned we've already got Snowy, but we've also got Otis Jingle-Jangles(who I'd forgotten about :O naughty mummy) When Snowy first arrived we had a bit of upset as the children were both still young and not really understanding the whole sharing malarky so in a bid for happiness and peace I grabbed an old sock, and in five mins we had a make shift snowman and two very happy children(and a happy baby lol)
However Otis gives me the creeps...but our son loves him so he'll have to come out again this year also. Again, if anyone wants to add him he'll be on facebook shortly, and if Amy wants to add him onto the list along with Snowy and Twinkles it would be nice for him!
I am going to make Otis a passport tonight also, as he didn't have one last year what with being thrown together!!! xxx0 -

Thanks yummy-mummy-amy, I just checked and they are not doing her this year but what do people think of this Santa from M&S if I managed to make him some green clothes?
He has magnetic hands and feet which could come in handy for mischief! Maybe a tad big though as he is 60cm long.0 -
Hi evryone
I have been reading this thread for the past 2-3 weeks and I think it's fantastic! Thank you all for your fab ideas. Our son and daughter are almost 4 (ds) and 20mo (dd) and this will be the first year of having Christmas at our house rather than one of the grandparents so I am keen to start some of our own traditions.
I think ds in particular would love an elf this year but here's where I need your help - where on the highstreet can I find one? I work ft so I've got mon and tue lunchbreaks to get a suitable candidate!
There is a shopping centre opp work (terribly dangerous for Moneysaving!) so I've a bit of choice - ELC, Debenhams, m&s - but not much time so any pointers would be v gratefully received.
Thanks all and Amy I'm glad you found your dog safe and well.
People have used Ben Elf from Ben & Holly and modified him, disney characters and me2you bears dressed as elves. Maybe one of those shelf sitter type ornaments - some Santa's can look quite elvish, a normal rag doll made more christmassy. Or you could use a reindeer/polar bear/snowman/penguin etc. I think it is quite hard to find an actual Christmas elf on the high street! If you have trouble, a different kind of helper could be used this year as your children are quite young, then you'd have more time to find the perfect elf for next year!
zoelikesjam I've added Snowy on facebook0 -

did you see the rag doll i have spare back a few pages? she doesnt have any clothes though, but if you are able to make her an outfit i am happy to post her to you.
not sure what you would find on high street to be honest. my original elf was a 7-dwarf from snow white, merry is an xmas rag doll and berties best friend is an aurora doll.due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

Thanks yummy-mummy-amy that's very kind but I think I need something a little more boys-y for DS. I may go for a Ben Elf as we don't get Nickelodeon so they haven't seen it.
And berryjingles that's a good idea about using this elf for this year only, I may well do that.0 -
My elves are coming on Tues but ds is ill with cough, cold, temp so I won't have much last minute prep time.
Last year he spent 3 weeks of Dec ill with flu while the elves were visiting.
I hope it doesn't happen again ;(0 -
Thanks for all the add's on facebook Elve's! The snow people have got more friends than me nearly! Had great great fun doing their pages!!!
Jevvers, our new snowgirl is a full size Teddy!!!0
