I always used to put my Christmas decs up on 1st December each year but after my mum died on 10th December 1995 we changed traditions.

My sister lives in USA and is unable to visit mum's grave (which I don't particularly like doing in the winter anyway) so we decided that our way of remembering mum is to put our trees up on Dec 10th each year and we usually call each other up while we're doing it. I'm sure our mum would have approved of our new 'traditions' .

Hi there, our tree and decs always go up December 1st, but I take them all down on Boxing Day! I have been known to take them down on Christmas Day eve before now LOL.
An excellent tip for those with rug rats is to tie a piece of tinsel around the top of the tree and then pin it to the ceiling. Our girls have all tried to pull over the tree when they were tiny and this stopped any serious damage to my ornaments (and the girls) :rotfl:

I love xmas but now I don't put a tree up at all-instead we go to scotland in a lovely cottage where the extra nice couple who own it put up a real xmas tree with lights and home made decorations and have a real log fire set up for us all. It makes xmas so easy and relaxed and when we get back home we don't have the aggravtion of having to put all the xmas decorations away (the bot I always hated)....:j
Thanks to MSE and all the moneysaving tips I can now work PT (instead of FT) to pay the bills and still have fun!!

Usually put the tree up about a week before Christmas Day and take it down on New Years Day. I'd take it down sooner if I was allowed to. I had to force myself to put it up last year, my son and one of my daughters were both away on (separate) holidays. It felt very empty.

We put ours up the first weekend in December and I always insist on taking it down on New Years Eve. I like to start the new year fresh and cannot stand the tree being up into January.

My neighbour puts his up mid November. Seems a little out of place to be honest.
