  • Just thought I would post an update here, with only two weeks left of 2010. I'm now pushing the boundaries of my $15k budget at $14,114.06 and it's blooming scary how quickly money slips through your fingers at this time of the year and not be tempted to over do it.

I've only three more days left at work this year and a few more battles to do in the shop for the rather long list of fresh stuff I still need to get, but I'm not planning on spending anything further until the New Year. So I'll draw a bit of cash out for emergencies and declare my final figure on Wednesday night, cos there's no way I am going near a shop on Thursday or Friday.

I thought I would end the year on a high and decluttered some old scraps of broken and long past it jewellery from the depths of my drawers and took them to one of these scrap gold dealers that gave sprung up on every street corner. Totally surprised myself with the proceeds from stuff I haven't even looked at in years, $217 from a few odd earrings, a broken chain and a cheap old Argos ring that had lost some stones. :T

Totally agree about the money heading out at this time of year - last month was one of my higher spend months of the year to date (4th highest of 11), and this month is already higher than that (though it does include £324 for my buildings/contents insurance, which is almost half of what I've already spent). I currently have £600.83 left of my £8k budget, so should - in theory - come in under my total budget although there are quite a few categories where my original budgets were waaay out!!
I've only three more days left at work this year
lucky you :) I've 6 more (including today) before Christmas, and then another 5 the following week before year end :(

I need to figure out what I still need for next week - other than milk, milk and more milk (younger DS - aka 'the milk monster' - has insisted on coming home 19th-26th so that I'm not on my own for Christmas, and wouldn't/couldn't accept I was quite looking forward to being 'home alone' :o)

However, my freezers and fridge are all fit to burst - so I've no room to store much fresh stuff ;)

  • Seem to be within my budget for the year, but am suprised at how much I have spent. Have made some savings on bills and other items, which I am happy about. This is the first year I have done this challenge, so it is a learning curve for me. Have been using up some things that I had before buying new products.

  • Righty oh, as of this evening I'm officially on holiday and am declaring 2010 all done at NZ $14,465.73 (or £6,948.27 at today's exchange). The shopping is complete and there's no more room in the fridge or freezer for another thing. I shall be staying away from any shops until the New Year. :rotfl:

I'm $534.27 better off than I budgeted and $423.06 of this was electricity, mostly due to switching to cheaper night rate and extra vigilance in switching things off, reducing times water is heated etc.:T

I've literally squeezed every cent of my grocery budget until it squeaked this past two weeks and shopped around like a mad thing in order to get all that I needed to see us over Christmas and into the New Year as cheaply as possible. We have some last minute visitors decided to swing by for a few days, which meant extra last minute shopping: mainly drinks and alcohol which I wouldn't usually have bought. I was determined that I would not go over my budget, so I am therefore exceptionally pleased I managed to get everything I planned to see us over the next couple of weeks and ended up having $16.76 remaining.

The other bit is $19.83 under in the 'Everything else' category; this includes $100 I drew out in cash for any emergency shops, or incidental spends over the Christmas break. In essence I hope to still have most of it left to start the New Year. :A

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and I'll catch up with you all again on the 2011 thread.
