Go into 'edit options' (either in the menu on the left when looking at your list of subscribed threads, or through 'Quick Links' drop down menu towards the top of the screen)

Scroll down to the section entitled 'Thread Display Options'
It's possibly you've unticked one of the first three boxes - if smilies have gone, then I suspect it's the third one at a minimum you need to tick

Then go to the bottom of the page and 'Save Changes'

Ahh, Grandma I love that jacket, and the cutie wearing it. I've just taken up knitting. Can't wait to get to that level of skill!

Thank you for the kind words both of you.
Chika that is two cuties. The one in the dark coat is two and a half and the other is 11 months.
One thing about that jacket was that it is not at all difficult to knit. Once you get the hang of making the loops it knits up really quickly.

I found a couple of videos on utube but neither of them do it how I do. One looked very awkward. I put the right needle in the next stitch and wrap the yarn twice around my forefinger which is under the left hand needle then wrap once around the needle.then I put the right hand needle in all the created stitches as well as the original and knit through them all and lift off leaving one new stitch which goes on the right hand needle then proceed to the next stitch. It sounds a lot more complicated than it is.

CW thanks for the info - went into edit options, all 3 boxes were ticked, have unticked/reticked/saved 3 times but no difference. Logged out & in again - hey presto - got all missing icons/thanks buttons etc. back - don't ask how coz I dunno, but happy bunny now.

Back on topic :o -spent very little in last few days as not been out much - weather is atrocious here - ice & freezing fog yesterday, pavements are still like polished glass today - like a skating rink - have checked with oldies in flats re shopping, got some xmas cards to post for one tomorrow - she is really fed up coz she hasn't been out for nearly 2 weeks - had a fall a few years ago and broke her hip, so won't go out in bad weather.

Am hoping to go to friend's tomorrow opposite end of city, so will be spending then.

    Keep warm all

    Hugs
    xx

  • Went to TESCO this morning :) and got some mega bargains!!!
    800g mince beef, 1.29 (got 4)
8 tesco crumpets 6p (got 26 packs lol)
    ciabatta loaves 26p (got 4)
    cheese n tom foccacias 30p (got 2)
    6 hot cross buns 25p (got 4)
    12 rolls 36p (warburtons 1 pk)
    submarine rolls 20p (2 packs)
cinnamon and raisin bagels - 6 in a pack 25p (got 2 lots but will freeze in individual sandwich bags)

Luckily i have 2 freezers and a chest freezer (which hasn't been turned on yet but will be soon) - this lot should last a few months!! 2 crumpets cooked, cooled and buttered will go into kids lunchbox with a sarnie and a drink :)

Last night i even used the skins from the potatoes (mash for veg cakes) to make crisps for sons lunchbox and then used the oil to fry the veg cakes and omlette (2 eggs left over mushrooms and bacon for 3 kids!) and also some stale ish bread i froze ages ago for the coating on the veg cakes. I also used up left over sweetcorn and mashed in a tin of value carrots for extra veg!!! Kids loved it and it was so so cheap! Only used 2 eggs andd 5 potatoes - rest was left overs. Inspired after watching britain's waste menu on bbciplayer last night :)
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

    Excellent bargains Natalie! :j

Am wondering is morning the best time of day to get reduced stuff?
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

  • NualaBuala - in my local store they reduce all during the day, but FINAL (down to 10% on fruit and veg and 25% on meat) is at 7pm. However, if I find anything on the shelf that is that day's date and hasnt already been found by the staff and reduced, I take it to the person handling reductions and ask if they will mark it down. They have NEVER said no, as its actually better for them to get 25% for something than have to throw it away the next day as its then out of date. I always ask politely, and the staff that do it always seem happy to have a natter. They told me that if stuff gets wasted (ie goes out of date and they have to throw it away) it goes against the budget of the particular department. This approach does mean that I never have a menu plan until I have been to the store but it works for me - seems easier to find things to make with my bargains than go to the store with a definite "I need this for the recipe I have in mind" mindset.

Thank you LRL :A Nice to have that inside information! Even leaving aside the bargains, I'm glad they are trying to avoid waste. I think I will follow your example and ask for reductions if I see stuff on its last day, good for you!
