Whatever those qualifications are - I regret I don't have them, sorry John.
I did do a lot of work on their payment systems many years ago (and know Coutts reasonably well !) ..... but those contacts have both faded and aren't the specialists you will need.
Look forward to the thread. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hi
I have just been and checked my husbands tax codes and it looks like he has been over paying since 2006 and maybe before. Is there any type of letter that we should send to the tax office as a draft as I not very good at writing letters.
Thanks for all you help.Debt Free No. 403

I just rang up and gave them all my employment details i.e. where I worked during the period in question and addresses etc., date of birth, Nat. Ins. No. etc. You may have to complete a form. I did when I retired but because I had a part time job 2 days per week and 2 small pensions it sort of complicated their calculations and they gave too much of my allowances to the pension cos. to use so I had to tell them what I was expecting to earn in my job so that they would use the majority of my allowance for my part time job. Anyway all sorted now and I don't pay any tax but it resulted in me getting tax rabates.
What you have to remember is that they won't chase you to offer rebates, you have to chase them and provide them with the info they need to sort the problem.
Good luck !

Hi
I have just been and checked my husbands tax codes and it looks like he has been over paying since 2006 .
What are the Codes. As there are many legitimate reasons why they may be less than the standard one for the year. Company benefits ( car, medical insurance etc) being the usual. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

i got my firm to confirm this with the tax office and recieved a rebate for over £3000. so thanks very much for bringing it to my attention.0 -
I have a question about tax allowances for a private pension. My husband recently received a tax coding which stated that he was being given an allowance for his private pension contributions of £600 pa. (he is now retired since September 2011). On the same coding they had set his private pension annuity payments which he has been receiving from this pension since Nov. 2010 against his allowances as a minus. He never checks his coding as he doesn't understand them and he hasn't been sent a tax return for some 12 yrs or more but his pension contributions stopped in 2003 ! the HMRC letter stated that we had told them he was paying these contributions. I have now written to HMRC about the mistake but am worried he will be told he owes them tax and he is now retired and living on a state pension and tiny private pension so cannot afford to pay a large tax owed to them.
I am shocked that they have been adding these contributions still to his allowances for the past 11 yrs. Doesn't the pension company notify them when he stops his contributions and starts receiving the annuity ? Also how can they put the contributions and the annuity that is being paid for the same pension on the same tax coding when it is obvious if he is receiving the annuity why would he still be contributing to it. :eek:0
