Anyone had "Fraud team at Santander" call them?

They are often genuine, but I always hang up and then ring the number on the back of the card, or the statement. They then put you through to Fraud dept., to check if there is a problem.
Better safe than sorry, as we once got one, allegedly from Mint credit cards, that was a scam.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
I've just been contacted by Santander fraud team! Answered after ready these posts. They didn't ask for any account or card numbers just asked if I recognised the last three transaction which they thought were fraudulent. I'm so glad they did because they were!! Luckily they declined the three payments, which were to Microsoft! He went thru the list of transactions over the last few days, all but the last three were mine. As a result my cards now been blocked & a new one sent! So glad I checked here first!0

I had a call and text message from this number this morning.
Before calling back I checked online, found this thread and then went ahead and called. I'm glad I did - the call was completely legitimate.
An automated system checked some details (including date of birth checked by picking day and month from a selection of four and then typing in the year), asked for the three digit code they'd sent me.
They read out some recent transactions, including some I didn't recognise. At that point they put me through to a person and we went from there.
Turns out there has been fraudulent activity on my account, so they've cancelled my card and stopped the fraudulent payments. Because they were made yesterday they should be easy to stop without further action - if I'd left it longer to call the process would be more complicated.
So, if you have a Santander account and you get a call from 0845 351 2275 you can feel safe to call them back - the sooner the better.
Hope this helps.0 -
Remember, with any call purporting to be from a bank or CC company, ring back on another line or wait at least an hour before calling.
There have been scams where the line has been kept open, a recorded dialling tone used and people giving details, while being confident that they are through to their bank.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Santander never call you. All they do is block the transaction so that you are left waiting for a delivery that will never arrive(but thats another story) I had to cancel my card because every time I ordered anything they blocked it as 'suspicious' and did not have the courtesy to let me know.0

OH YES THEY DO! I had the fraud team call me last July to check on the last few transactions as they were all O2 top-ups and I'm not with them. These were fraudulent and I got a new card. Stop talking crap!!0 -

That's patently untrue. If you bothered to read even a single post from the thread you decided to spam with your moan, you'd know that.0 -
Fraud depts at banks have computers which monitor customer spending habits.
So if you never buy anything from John Lewis and suddenly attempt to spend £600 transaction is likely to fail. Likewise if you never shop at Ocado and then suddenly lots of deliveries start happening.
My bank basically fails anything over £100 outside of my normal spending pattern. I call straight away and sort it. Often have to redo transaction with them on phone.
OH banks with an American bank which is really hot on security. He gets a call from bank within an hour, person not automated, with about six security questions but they have ID confirmation question so he knows its them. His bank isn't so annoying though.0 -
I have had two calls today from them, I have hung up both times as I do not have an account with Santander and I'm also ex directory! So I'm thinking its a scam!!!
Same as you Shonnie1 I don't have a Santander account, I am ex-directory and my usual bank does not have my landline number!
I very rarely have my landline plugged in. Typical, I plug it in and get this call through. I pulled the plug while it was still ringing I didn't even answer. I never answer unknown numbers.0 -

John Lewis is a big one for fraud as unless they've changed it recently you don't need the cvv code for online transactions so easy to commit fraud.
I work in fraud, it's very interesting and scary! The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
