    Hi

Thanks again for your advice. However, don't you think the bad reference would eliminate all this 'talk'?

    Hi

Many thanks indeed for the advice.

Do you think it would be better if I go into the office tomorrow morning and mention the fact of how much I enjoy working here & be grateful of the chance given to prove my skills, regardless of what is mentioned in the reference?

Brown-nosing has its place. This isn't it. It's too transparent. Just cough up the truth, tell them what has happened and then maybe play for the fact that you have enjoyed the job and feel you can contribute and you hope they will give yu a chance to. Most employers respect honesty rather that flattery - especially when the reason for th e flattery becomes very obvious! You are already stuck with it - they are almost certain to find out. You haven't lied to them at all (have you?) so far, so just play it out. They can still get rid of you easily enough, so they may be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt for honesty.

you are lucky that you have been there a few weeks when they will already have seen you in action, unless you have a real hard core element within your ex-employer like mine who will take up a moral position to keep you out of work once they find out where you are, i actually think you should be ok:)

    Hi Folks

    Many thanks for you replies.

I know that I am a bit lucky to be already working their for the last few weeks, but the only thing that scares me is that in the contract it says 'subeject to satisfactory references'.

In all honesty, so you think I should get myself prepared to hear the bad news i.e. being sacked from this place?
  • what you need to worry about is not your employers immediete reaction but more about what your ex employer says to influence them.

i take it youve had no problems since your start?

how would you expect your ex boss to talk about you if asked?

    Thanks for your reply, Milkshock.

The answer to your question - how would you expect your ex boss to talk about you if asked?

I think he will definitely say that I was dismissed amd obviously he would not have very good words to say about me. Because if he did, then obviously the next question is why did he get rid of me? The only thing whch angers me is that I had been at my old place for almost 2 years, and then got dismissed on the reason that I am not performing my job properly. It took them 2 years to find that out!!

then brace yourself. wait till they call you in and act in a contrite manner. you may get away with it. expect to be fired though, and i dont mean that because i think you definitely will, but more because you will be able to react better if they do tell you to leave.

i mean don't act arrogantly as if the old employer was purely to blame for everything and how you were let down by them etc. its better to say something along the lines of accepting that there were issues, much of which may have come down to personality differences, and you have gained knowledge of how to handle relationships with people at work, and that above all you have enjoyed working with your new employer, and that you really want it to continue.

It means to be apologetic and humble. :)

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
