Did anybody else have any trouble with Lidl fireworks?
I bought the black nebula box and had issues with 3 of the fireworks.

We had that box and they were fine. One of the short stumpy ones that looked like a pencil had a broken fuse so we couldn't use it, but apart from that, we had no problems.
Here I go again on my own....

I wish they were banned so that there was only organised displays. That way my dogs wouldn't be having kittens every night from Oct 15th to Jan 1st!!!!!!!

Seriously, You can't beat a few quid for a fantastic half hour display. You would have to pay hundreds of pounds to get anywhere near as good in your own back garden. I don't understand why people bother, judging by the cost of fireworks I reckon the average family spends as much on Nov 5th as they do Dec 25th!!!!
Because the experience of having your own firework display is much more exciting and fun - not in an irresponsible way. Not to mention you don't have to travel, you don't get people shoving you in the back so they can see better, and you can have your darn baked potatoes the way you like it!

When I was younger I used to love my Dad's firework displays - not to mention they lasted longer and you can give each shell/star/bombette your attention without everything happening at once. And those mortars are a bit overpowering I think. Rockets are much better, but now we're getting into opinionated debate so I'll stop.

I for one am going to buy a few (not many) fireworks this year, just to have that experience I've never had before. You get both a sense of responsiblity, and I've always found fireworks a fascinating and intriguing invention. Our dog doesn't like fireworks either, but he soon gets over it after the period is over - which by the way; you exaggerated massively. Fireworks by law are banned after 11.30pm in most places, and those who don't comply shouldn't let down the rest of us who just want to enjoy the fireworks we decided to spend money on. You wanna worry about more pressing issues than a fortnight a year where people celebrated the foiling of a plan to destroy a monarch and his parliament - though I'm not really sure it's about that so much any more.

Wow I dragged on... sorry.

You no what mate? Well said!!

It makes my blood boil when people say 'ban them' 'go to an organized display' well **** off!!

We always have ours at home in our garden, it is better. Why would you want to travel, pay money to watch fireworks with crowds, get pushed and shoved when you can just sit at your own home and get as many or as little as you want and let them of when you want, people like privacy, i think the amount of supermarket and retail fireworks that are sold prove this. around Preston it is immense the amount of families that let there own of. It is more thrilling and exciting to do your own.

But i can of course understand that pets etc and kids dont like bangs and families might want to go to displays, it is the people who are just against fireworks full stop that annoy me, and i do know some good organized displays to.

    End rant lol.

Anyway i will do my best to keep you up to date with any offers i find, we go to epic fireworks in batley for ours, awesome they are. www.epicfireworks.com

And usually go round the supermarkets for any decent bogof offers.

I can't wait for this bonfire night it is my favourite time of year, as i do love fireworks and the whole season!

    Cheers for reading. icon7.gif

Does anybody know where you can get those beautifully tacky Indoor Fireworks, which make horrible smoke and vaguely obscene wiggly worms in the comfort of your own dining room? We always used to have them for parties when I was a kid and now it seems you can't get them.
    Help please!

I like outdoor fireworks, I really do. I just wish I could SEE all the ones whose bangs keep me and the kids awake............ often in my street, yes, even after 11pm !
I'm afraid they have become an extension of the Trick or Treat nuisance, and ever since the Millenium celebrations they seem to go on until well after New Year (ok, ok, that did coincide with me turning into a Grumpy Old Woman...:o)

Good prices, but very cheeky not including VAT in displayed prices.

Unfortunately delivery is SOOOOO expensive. It's £100 if you order less than £250, otherwise free, BUT if you collect you get a free gift supposedly worth £133.50, so clearly you're paying for delivery.

It's a long way to Batley from Surrey.

Anyone know a CHEAP shop in Surrey?

Yeah it is quite far away and cheeky with the vat lol, but i think they have branches across the uk, check the site theres one in london i think, i will be going from preston to batley next weekend takes about an hour each way plus saves the delivery charge.

Just been in morrsions they have theres on display advertised sale for the 15th (monday) but no leaflets yet. Its their usual brands, dynasty and cosmic. rockets well, they have small ones at £7. some a bit bigger and bogoff for £10 which i think are good value. Then they have bigger ones from cosmic for £15 and £20 which are space comander and space invader.

Do not get fooled by the big ones from dynasty for £24, they wont be as good as you think, they will be decent but no way worth £24. I would go for the cosmic rockets (always really good) or the smaller ones from dynasty, the £10 bogoff seems really good.

They have some great value selection boxes as well from big to small and the usual big offer... a big black puma box from dynasty for £45 and you get 3 barrages and the big dynasty rockets with it for free. i think that is an awesome display for £45 for any family.

As for Lidl check their site because i think they have details of their range for 2007 on now.

And if your thinking of buying anything and are unsure post away because i have been buying from supermarkets and epic and all sorts of other shops for the past 6 years so might be able to tell you whats good and whats not. ;)

    Cheers. :)

Edit: I just rememberd if anyone lives near Bury or in that area there is a good shop on the main street toward wilkinsons, like a cheap bargains shop, and they usually have them, have never let us down, we usually get our new years eve ones from there and the rockets we got last year were about £20 for 14 and they were stunners. :)

Yeah I saw that and called them and they said that you can only collect from Batley. The other numbers are just for salesmen for shops etc.

The prices are still seriously cheap, they charge the same wholesale price that they'd charge to the shops, just check the shops brochure on their site. They are the largest wholesalers in the country. They've got some nice videos on youtube, just search 'epicfireworks'

I spent nearly £150 last year, but I don't want to spend the £250 really that you'd need for 'free' delivery. I do like to get the larger fireworks though, so don't like the supermarket selection boxes that much.

You can get an idea of the firework quality from http://www.firework-review.org.uk/ They have a membership charge which is well OTT, but you can browse the review scores and outline descriptions of all the fireworks, which worked pretty well last year. Obviously if you're getting a £30 firework for £15, then it's going to score much better than those scores there which are based on full RRP.

I'm thinking about buying from http://www.vulcanfireworks.co.uk/shop/products/ which is my local, they seem to be ok, I need to work out how cheap they are though. Basically fireworks are pretty much standardised - you get say 40 shots, 25mm tubes, so if one place is charging £20 for that size and another place £30, then the second one is 50% overpriced - doesn't really matter the name or size.

Apparently the best rockets are Zink, made in Germany, which are also sold by Kimbolton (as Kimbolton Zink rockets), they go up to 4 ounces in payload (this size will be illegal next year, so this is your last chance), they have better-quality motors and effects. About £20 I think for a 4oz rocket.
