As mentioned above, ALDI is worth checking out. Their fireworks go on sale from tomorrow (19 Oct). You can also subscribe to their regular email newsletters for their latest special offers on other stuff.

Why not go to a public display?

Leicester City Council's Abbey Park display has got a light sabre parade by the UK 501 Garrison, a bang-free early display for kids, an orchestra playing film music, and a main display (presumably with lots of bangs!). Family ticket is £10 from Tourist Info Centre.

Not done this before so hope it works!

Have just been to Morrisons and they have started selling fireworks - are doing their famous 'BOGOF' deals on fireworks and sparklers. We had the sparklers last year and they were great and have just done the deal and got two packs of small ones for only 75p.

Standard Fireworks are based at Crossland Moor in Huddersfield and they have a shop next to their factory that you can visit and buy any firework you can imagine from a public display to a sparkler. They do not appear to advertise their shop but there is a phone number on their website (link below) and if you phone I am sure they will give opening times. For anyone living close to Huddersfield this is well worth a visit. I take my wife every year (while the kids are at school) and they have £10 bags and £20 bags etc which contain all types of fireworks. I cannot believe that I still see local people buying fireworks from Asda.
It may be because the Black Cat factory shop is not really advertised but it is open for the local community.

PS If you leave your visit until bonfire night they virtually empty the shop by just reducing and reducing prices.
PPS They do test their new products regularly and whilst it is OK one a year testing every week can get on your nerves.

You cannot beat their prices.

https://www.discountfireworksdirect.co.uk will sell you Menshun fireworks at 50% of retail. They are in Bradford and one other branch which escapes me. Very helpful and Menshun are a good brand.

Tescos and Asda and many other large stores are cheap, but you don't really get the decent quality; deep colours and loud bangs :eek: ....

I have found https://www.vulcanfireworks.co.uk. There is a huge range of fireworks - from very cheap to more expensive types!!!! GREAT FIREWORKS!!!!

Personally I use Selstar Fireworks. They have a 25% discount for online orders and they only stock quality fireworks. Not only do they sell fireworks, they do displays for councils and large events, this is why I am happy to trust the fireworks they sell.

Why have fireworks increased so MASSIVELY in price over the past few years?

From recollection, fireworks were quite moderately priced up to the mid-90s but the selection wasn't that great. Then, in the mid-90s, Chinese-made fireworks arrived en masse and the prices seemed like incredibly good value. Moreover, large 'display' type fireworks became available. Then the Government banned certain fireworks like mortars and bangers and, most worryingly, the prices started to go through the roof. Even Lidl's prices seem to be 2x or 3x higher than just a few years back. What's going on? I will no longer buy them.

Prices all seem normal to me but then again i dont remember the prices of them years back lol hasn't everything got more expensive? lol
