I had a read. Most of the tablets on there are either not available or way out of budget.

I'm interested in the vega, but its' not available yet and I've no idea when it will be.

Thanks. I'm gonna have a bit of a look around and see if I can find one with a better battery life.

Perhaps drop the people above a line and see what they suggest?

It's a rapidly changing marketplace, and it's worth finding a retailer who understands what you want/expect from an iPad clone.

Personally, I'm tempted by something like this :-
    http://www.androidtabletpcs.co.uk/8-freescale-cortex-a8-tablet-with-android-2.2-froyo-and-512mb-of-ddr2-ram.html

Android 2.2, the Cortex A8 processor, 8in screen (resistive alas), and 512Mb of ram.

(oh , and a price tag nowhere near the Galaxy!)

If I don't buy the above it will be because I will wait for stock of the Archos 101, but thats £100 dearer.

    Thanks.

It's a minefield isn't it! And I'm feeling a little overwhelmed since I don't know anything about android at all.

Almost wish I had the cash for an ipad, at least then I'd know what I was getting lol. Still, the price just puts me off. I love my iphone but just can't justify paying £500 for what is essentially a big ipod touch. Especially not when I know I can get an android for much, much less and it'll do what I want.

I'm afraid anyone who buys one of these Android pads right now is still an early adopter, and it comes with consequences.

Wait 6 months or a year, and the market will be awash with better quality devices for less money.

I know I should wait, but the question is, will I ? :rotfl:

I was going to go the Android route but none of them seemed upto what I wanted. The touch screen was useless unless you used a stylus. The screens on these devices are not like the iPad you actually need some pressure to make them work. The Galaxy has a touchscreen like the iPad. I myself went for an iPad and havent looked back. Best £500 spent in ages

You can't knock the iPad I reckon. But it's a premium product.

The closest thing which might compete is the Archos 101, but it might lack that usability factor. At under 300 notes, I think Archos have a good price point though.

You're wrong on that one. Part of the requirement for the official Android market is to have phone functionality. There are other markets of course and as there will soon be a flood of Android tablets that requirement may be relaxed.

But unlike Apple products you can install software from other sources as well...

Its actually quite expensive for a device with an 800x600 resistive screen.

I wouldn't recommend this for ebook or internet use.

sorry to have to tell you, but it is easily possible to install software from other sources onto either the ipad or iphone.

Its actually much easier to jailbreak an ios product than it is to root an android product.
