As far as I am concerned the people that I have read they are going to be targetting in these schemes are criminals! There is absolutely NO excuse for not being able to find a job in (maximum 2 years). It sickens me.
you dont live these peoples lives so you dont know them some people are generally unemployable some are in a way !!!!!! and cant do application forms or interviews what the press give us is a snapshot of the huge number of people unemployed and that just isnt fair
and they are not criminals the criminals are the mps themselvesReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -

If you'd read the reports, you'd know that the people they're targetting are those who sabotage efforts to get them into work or those who are doing jobs on the side whilst fraudulently claiming benefits.
They're not targetting those who can't work, but those who WON'T work. There's plenty of help available to those who want it, such as help with filling in application forms or interviews.0 -

This comment should be treat with the contempt it deserves - it is remarks such as this what really 'sickens me'.0 -
I used to work in a personnel (now HR) department of a large factory.
We used to get applications in from unemployed people that were total nonsense (eg ambition: - "to be Micky Mouse" Last occupation: "Mass murderer" and so on .........),obviously designed to avoid being given an interview or god forbid, offered a job.
When I left work, semi retired, I volunteered to teach basic skills to the unemployed to increase their chances of employment. Most were sent to us as a last resort - often they would turn up, totally resentful, aggressive or sarcastic, put no effort at all in to the program and often not reappear again.
My own youngest boy has been out of work for 4 months now - we are in a rural area, he had no transport which made it even harder for him, virtually impossible in fact as public transport is scarce. He has now managed to pass his driving test and we have bought a small old van for him so that he can build up a jobbing/handyman business. We are fortunate in that we could afford to do this for him.
The government should also be targetting people in rural areas who want to work and have transport issues - the cost of driving lessons/a loan for a vehicle would be cheaper in the long run than someone stuck on the dole for years.0 -
The system is set up to make you fail from the day you become unemployed. I worked for a agency for a little while but they couldn't' find me enough work to support myself so that was no good so I end up unemployed. I have asked staff at my local job centre that due to lack of jobs, Is there anything I can do from home. I have a pc with internet but they just look at you like your a alien, They don't have a clue what they are doing, Surely there's jobs you can do from home with a computer and net ?0

I'll be fascinated to see how this pans out, particularly given the number of moans and groans we see on these boards from people who resent the time/expense/effort taken in travelling to the JobCentre to sign on once a fortnight in exchange for their benefits. If that's too much aggravation, I can only imagine how they'll feel about the time/expense/effort to travel to a community job!0

I dont see what the big fuss is about.
There are always noises from the hypocrites in government concerning 'no more life on the dole'. I noticed that IDS has a personal wealth of 1 million and he has never had a proper job in his life.
All you idiots saying that those on the dole should get a job because 'its costing the taxpayer money' should take a step back. Do you know how much money the government will spend today on the war in Afghanistan? 137 million pounds. That is just in one day. Thats £5 billion a year. I dont want to get into the ethics of the war but remind me again why we are there? You clowns moan about leeches costing the taxpayer, open your eyes.
Listen, we all know that there are lifers on the dole. I pay tax and I dont have a problem with it. I am busting my !!!! for little money and they are sitting at home doing nothing. Where is the wise man? Dole lifers know all the tricks. They know how to sign off for a month to go back to stage 1 and start the cycle all over again. They know how to claim their £100 sign off bonus. They know how to get out of these things.
The everyday Joe who really cant find work but is trying hard will be the victim here. He doesn't know the tricks. He doesnt know how to get out of the training schemes, or volunteer work. It is he I feel sorry for here.
Some people have just had awful luck in life and through low self esteem, poor confidence, lack of education etc they are going to be the ones who suffer, not the lifers. This is a typical Tory trick and how many real jobs have those c_unts had?0 -
First-off, you don't go back to stage 1 if you only sign off for a month. If you sign off the dole, then sign back on within 6 months it is counted as a 'continuation of claim'.
Coeus, well done in finding work so quickly, however I disagree with your comment about the fact no one should take more the 5 months to find employment.
I spent 16 years, 4 months and 6 days working for the same company before they decided to move abroad and lay us all off. It took me 5 months to re-gain employment (which, thanks to their main customer pulling a large order, only lasted 3 weeks and 2 days).
This despite having a total of 20 years experience in sheetmetal work, 10 years of which have been spent setting/operating cnc machinery.
I have 'Train the trainer' qualifications, a current First Aid certificate, H&S qualifications and can work to/create technical engineering drawings, yet still I have trouble obtaining work.
The ave. hourly rate in my area is £6.50, but to pay my bills I need to earn £7.50 minimum.
As I was stupid enough to buy my own property rather than go for the social housing route, I am unable to simply move into an area with more job prospects. Luckily I will soon be eligable for assistance in becoming self-employed, so have already started to explore potential business ideas.
As for 'workfare', it seems similar to the 'helps' projects run many years ago (apart from the fact that those projects entitled you to claim mileage + extra £10 p/w on top of benefits).Never Knowingly Understood.

The thing that that I hate about being unemployed is your tarred with same people who are happy to live on the dole, There's no distinction between them and people who want to work and apply for jobs. Sadly the system is not interested in separating the people who want work and the people who don't,0

I suspect this crass comment is made by someone in the comfort of regular employment and has had no experience of attempting to find a job in the current climate.
If you 'have no basis of evidence' to support you claim then I would suggest that you keep your own counsel on such matters you obviously have no idea of.
Yes - you are certainly out of touch.
Seems you have a somewhat biased view. Please read my previous posts thoroughly and objectively. I successfully attained a job at the start of the recession within 3 weeks.
The comment is not crass but from an experienced viewpoint. Either you do not understand the situation or do not wish to.
The lack of basis of evidence for this late on into the recession is true, however that does not mean I cannot draw reasoned conclusions from my earlier experience and later research.
Should you be experiencing difficulty in attaining employment you have my sympathy. However unless you are willing to objectively argue this viewpoint please keep your 'crass' comments to yourself - at least in regard to my posts.Hope For The Best, Plan For The Worst0
