Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Well a week into November already eek how quick did that happen
I assume you all are enjoying an lovely lie in ;)
Little firework display was lovely last night although as usual the catherine wheel was a massive disappointment as it launched off the shed we'd nails it to :rotfl: DS also managed to burn his finger by touching the end of a spent sparkler - nothing serious, we were watching him like a hawk but he still managed to get a crafty touch there. Oh well it will teach him not to do it again. Hot dogs with caramlised onions were the dogs bits, wish I'd made more they were sooooo scrummy. HM leek and potato soup and HM apple pie for dessert, belly was full, feeling warm and contented in the bosom of my family. Can I do it all again tonight?! :rotfl:

Plans for today are pastry making. Stewed more apple in SC so got more pies to make today.
Also need to crack on making some more Xmas cards etc that friends have ordered off me.
No doubt H will try and fit in some ironing for us today and a little bit of washing to go on. I will tackle the dusting etc tomorrow, I WILL stick to Flylady from now on :o

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a great Sunday OS or not.

  • Good morning Bitsy, and all who follow  Iwas about to start the thread, as I couldn;t believe, even on a Sunday, that it's 8am and no Daily :rotfl:

DS and I made salami yesterday :T We've made sausage before, but not more specialist sausage, so it was tricky, but very exciting. I took photos but am having techie problems uploading them, so will update later :)

We swept lots of leaves in the garden, and I pulled up the plants in the ploytunnel that have stopped cropping. I still have lots of tomatoes, so I'm going to leave the green ones (not many now ;) ) to see if they ripen.

Have a great Old Style day everyone :j

  • Good morning :)

Not posted lately as I've rather fallen off the OS wagon but am determined to get back on.

Sciatica is bad today for whatever reason so won't really be doing much and may take the cats and go back to bed till I have to go out to a pet-sitting job.

Breakfast is cooking as I write (boiled egg + porridge) and I've had a wee tidy round.

Hope everyone has a good MSE and OS day :)

    Morning All

I have a sneaking suspision that the 'Lurgy' that swept threw the family over the last few weeks has finally got to me! DS1 had started yesterday with a heavy cold and this morning I have been sneezing and I have a headache.....best get as organised as I can for the week ahead today!

Will need to do some more baking as the stuff I made yesterday has all but gone! Might even get the bread maker out to make dough for buns for pack-ups the next few days (bank account is a bit lean to say the least for the next couple of days!)

I have one corned beef pie to freeze for later in the week and I think we'll have bacon butties for brunch, sausage, onions, mash veg and gravy for dinner. DD has requested pancakes (the small thick ones) for breakfast and I don't have any in so I'll have a go at making some.

DW and WM are on already and the kitchen is clean...ready for me to make a mess again :D

    Enjoy your sunday!

  • Good Morning all, bright and sunny at the moment here, but this is England, and it is November so it could all change very quickly. Had a bit of a lie in this morning till around 7.30 then I just had to get up.its no good no matter how I try I just can't get past getting up when I am awake .Far too many years of waking up at five.a.m. ingrained into me I think.Still early bird and all that :) must admit I've not caught many worms yet :)

Still, shortly my dyson will be whirring away, and then a bit of dusting and then feet up to listen to The Archers, I am a woman of habit I'm afraid.DD will arive around 11.15 for coffee and a chin wag then after she has gone it will be time for lunch. A salad wrap I think with some fruit to follow. Mid -afternoon I go to my youngest DDs and play cards or chess with the kids, and dinner in the evening with the tribe .DGD Katie will be turning up this week with love of her life Tom in tow for family dinner. Then home in time to watch Downton Abbey one of the best drama's produced for ages on t.v., a bit of knitting, then off to bed around 10.00.p.m. for a read of my book and thats my Sunday taken care of.
Not exciting as many but good for me as I get to see all of my close family and do everything more of less that I want to do which can't be bad. Not a bit of shopping in sight thank goodness.
Hope everyone has as good a day as I will have and <<hugs >> to those who are down ,poorly or just feel a bit sad today.
    Cheers JackieO xx
P.S. DGS Danny comes home from Madrid and his MTV awards thingy he's been working on on Tuesday so I must remember to fill up the cake and cookie tins .Bless him he says the work was good, but the food wasn't .

Morning all. The house has gone all cold again, no more strutting about in shorts in 17 degree heat!
I fell asleep watching tv again and woke up naturally, 9 hours later, at 8am :) Not sure what I'm going to do today. I really feel like a nice long walk, but I need to do ~4 hours of uni work, apply for a census job, apply for an internship, do a 20 min tidy and make a batch of veg soup for lunches/work this week!

Lidl have steak, tinned salmon(77p 420g!!!), olive oil and museli for half price this weekend, but when I got there last night after work they'd sold out and a member of staff told me to try again today. Surely they're not going to get a delivery sat night/sun morn?
Or does anyone know if they hold stock back for the sunday?
If I get in the shower now then start walking I'll arrive just as they open.

I had a little lie-in til half8 but not a great sleep IYKWIM. It's a beautiful start to the day here. I have put yesterdays laundry out on airer for a blowing to make it smell nicer. WM is on with bedding and few clothes so most of that will go on airer later too.

    Today I need to:

    - tidy spare room
    - general quick tidy flat
    - hoover throughout
    - wipe kitchen over
    - take recycling to tip (so annoying plastics and cardboard can't go in our recycling bins here!)
    - take some things back to shops
    - do small food shop
    - research and book some stuff for my trip to Montreal (less than 3 weeks to go :D)
    - do my uni work - I've scheduled this for during the Grand Prix as I can watch and work at same time.

But first things first I'm back to bed for half hour with a cuppa :rotfl:

    Have a great day all

Mornign folks, not been on much this week as things have been difficult but have been adamant that I am not going to loss my way. Its really cold and frosty here this morning, just going to put on a pot of Yellow split pea and ham soup for lunch and have had my big butcher order delivered so have that to cook and freeze sometime today, feels like a hassle at the time but its great to come in after a day at work and tea is ready! WM is on DW is on and ironing will be done later. Have about 4 hours of hubbys books to do, but will space it out over the day. Off work tomorrow so going to make an attempt at doing a christmas list and head off to town to make a start, I am keeping to a tight budget this year and I will not be buying wasteful pressies that are not any use, so it will probably by pj's, slippers etc with a wee treat included for everyone!
I have been busy knitting scarves with a fancy wool called can-can, it costs £10 a ball and I can get two scarves out of it, these are selling at £10, so this week I have done 5 scarves, the extra will go into the christmas kitty and not just in my purse as I wont see the benefit of it that way,
hope you all have a great day,

    Suzy

I just looked that wool up and it makes fantastic scarves :D I want to get my hands on some to have a go at making a crazy little shrug with big frilly shoulders!
Perhaps I shouldn't have watched bugsy malone friday as I'm now obsessed with the outfits :o

Morning all..............................((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one......

Another bright morning, but bbbbrrrrrr very cold, just poked my nose out the door.

    2010_1018Lizcard0001.jpg

The house warming gift I made for an MSE'er who moved into their new home in SW Scotlang yesterday. Could not post the picture before for obvious reasons.

We had meltdown here last night, OH did not realise just how ill he had been, he does now!! I ended up in tears went to bed and left him to get on with it........needless to say he is in a much better frame of mind this morning, but I am like a wet dishrag......hopefully he will get out for a blow in the garden again this morning. It will do him good to get out. He has had his brekkie, its up to him now what he does........

I have no plans for the day, pork chops for supper tonight thats what he has asked for, so thats what he will get. Am going to try the chocolate sponge cake mixture see how it works, you just add water to it, all I have to do is work out how much mixture for an 8" cake tin to make a decent sponge.

Offsky for my second coffee shot, back later,
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

Not been for a bit, too much on & fed up with not managing to be MSE & money situation being really bad now!
Anyway, csarina those pressies are FAB :D - did you embroider the card yourself, too?
Baby didn't wake until 7.15, little lad not until nearly 8 - so nice to get up in daylight on a Sunday! :D
Going to work in a couple of hours, but not for long, then tons of ironing to do, clean bathroom & make some more Christmas cards. Tea's going to be cod loin with whatever veg is left, might make yogurt pudding for afters.
Looks like I may get one of the new jobs at work, but it's 75% less pay, hour for hour, so belt-tightening will reach new heights!
Hope you all have a nice Sunday, will try to pop back later.
    A xo
