I have taken the harddrive out its the one with the piece off ribbon attached in a silver flatish box ? Do i just take all that out or do i have to do something else ?

Just take it out and your done.

Then if you buy a case off ebay for about 2-3 pounds, you can put this hard drive into the case and make it into a portable USB drive. The cables and case and screws all come in the kit from ebay. Then you can backup all your files on the drive or use it to store additional files etc.

Just a thought....if you're going to sell it on ebay without the hdd, please leave the hdd caddy and screws with the lappy :)

The caddy is the flatish silver box you describe above - unscrew the small screws which hold the hdd into the caddy.

As someone who regularly buys fix-its from ebay, it's so frustrating when there's no hdd caddy, as they're specific to the lappy (NOT the hdd), and if you can't get hold of one it's really frustrating. Personally, why on earth anyone would want to keep a caddy for a lpaay they're selling is beyond me ;)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

"Is the harddrive what looks like a green board with lots off solerding on ?"

No, thats not the hard drive. Thats the motherboard

Actually, it may be. The PCB side of the hdd is often green, and yes, there are many soldered jionts on it. Usually visible once the hdd is removed from the caddy ;)

Sell it without the hard drive.

I would safely erase the hard disk with DBAN. Selling a (broken) laptop without it reduces the price by more than the hard disk is worth.

Why do people keep recommending selling PCs without hard disk when there are ways (certified by the DoD) to destroy all data on it?

What do you mean by there is nothing there on the screen?

Is the screen broken or is the laptop not starting or it is running but not loading windows?

It may be fixable depending what is wrong with it.
The laptop starts up ok but then u just get a blank page ? I did show this to a friend off mine who knows abit about laptops he thinks the harddrive has gone ?

    You are not the OP.

Yes, so are you. What's your point?

I gave the OP advise what I would do. Isn't this what this forum is about?

completely blank, no error messages or anything?
