I meant to get and wrap up a pack of dusters for my DH to teach him not to say to me 'it didn't matter if I got generic household items as my Christmas present as it was the thought that counted'. This was because a few years ago my MIL gave me a biscuit tin for Christmas.
I forgot to get them though, but I did tell him he was meant to receive them and why.;)
MIL pressie was once surpassed by SIL who bought me a bottle of Chan'el (not a typo).0 -
My OH got me an epilator for last Xmas, would have been chuffed except for I have sensitive skin and it made me cry and come out in a rash...
Bless him when I got the guts to tell him I couldn't use it he wasn't even fussed - he was so proud that he'd been overcharged at Tesco for it anyway and went and claimed DTD as he's seen me do previously! He ended up paying next to nothing for it and he even encouraged me to take it to a bootsale we did! Not only is he 'thoughtful', he's also a closet MSE lol0 -
When I was 13 my mother bought me a cassette player. No cassette`s to play on it just the player itself.Thats all I got that year, not even an orange in me stocking:(
I moved out (kicked out more like!) the next year and went to live with my father.
It`s so nice to know your loved :rotfl:0 -
My MIL has given me some truly wonderful presents over the years  (but tbf she doesn't get her own sons more than a token so I shouldn't complain - would just like her to put in a bit of thought:o). I have had: one year one of those long lighter thingies for my gas cooker, another year she bought me a trivet (a few weeks AFTER I had damaged my worktops with a pan I had also burnt:o) and most years I just don't get anything, but then neither do any of the other adults in the family
Furthermore, I usually put quite a bit of effort into getting her something nice, but if she doesn't like it she will say so quite bluntly and ask me to change it:eek:
Having said that: she has been pretty good and supportive over the years and I do forgive her"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
My husband once came home from work and said he'd been and bought my Christmas pressie in his lunch hour. Bless him, he was so excited about what he'd bought me. On Christmas Day there was a great big box wrapped up for me and it was....a really technical telescope. I'd mentioned in passing a few months before how I loved to look up at the stars and he'd taken that in and decided that a telescope was the perfect pressie!
He set it up in the bedroom window on Christmas night and I ran upstairs inbetween good bits on the telly to see the moon and Saturn, which he'd found. I never did get the hang of how to use it and for the following year it stood in a corner of the bedroom with bags and scarves hanging off it
This year he bought me a new drinks bottle to use at the gym....0 -

I have sat and laughed and cried at this thread. I haven't got any really bad presents, when i was little a great aunty used to send me a cheque for £1.99, it did go up to £2.99 when i was a teenager, they were always sent in my mothers name with the wrong surname so we never cashed them in. Some of these are really sad like the poster who did not get anything off her parents and the bottle of malt vinigar.
Oooh last year i got my oldest friend a dvd some perfume etc, she said she didn't have much money and that she wasn't getting me much fine.
i opened my present to find home made cakes, tasted vile, she hadn't put any sugar in and a face mask from the local spar with the 99p sticker still on! This xmas i didn't get her much and she got me loads! oh well least we are even now. Hope everyone had a good xmas and a happy new year :beer:0 -
Not the worst, but certainly the strangest...a wooden meat 'mallet' basher thingie this christmas from OH's Mum. Yes, I do enjoy cooking, but other infinitely more useful kitchen utensils spring to mind!Proud DFW Nerd #62

PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
Actually, thinking about it, I can probably beat you all hands down:D. Many years back my ex (who seldom managed to buy me anything for Christmas) asked me what I would like that year. Instead of leading him to the shops and pointing I suggested he get me something black and red and sexy!
I got a small Jonsered chainsaw! Yes, it was red and black and it does vibrate but...............
It has been very useful over the years though:o"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0
