One year I got a mop, a bottle of tomatoe sauce and a gin bottle filled with water from my OH. Most romantic one ever.

  • My ex father in law is a multi-millionaire, living in Australia. He has never sent any of my 4 children even a birthday card, so his legendary money-saving Christmas presents (on the years their father has taken them to visit him) are always looked forward to with some considerable glee. One year he gave the kids a pair of socks each, another a t-shirt, which for him was a bit of a result. Another year he gave them all a video each, one was about insects. It never got opened. One of the kids got a completely inappropriate adult comedy video.

But his very best effort was the present he gave his ex-wife, still a friend, one year. She opened her parcel to find a gardening belt, which was clearly marked with the name of the magazine he had got it free with.

Slightly off the subject, but still amusing, is what he did to my daughter when she visited him a few years ago. It was her 14th birthday. He and his partner (loon) took her out to dinner, then when the bill arrived handed it to her. She thought he was joking, and told him she had no money with her (remember, she's 14 with a few quid spending money, and he's a middle aged multi-millionaire). So he kindly offered to drive her home to get some money. Which he did. Thus wiping out about a quarter of her spending money. Nice.

Then, when she returned, he had the bloody cheek to send an email complaining that she should be more generous.

Strange but true. The vile sod will get his come-uppance one day.

  • A voucher from my gran for a first driving lesson. I had been driving for years and race regularly!

Oh, I just remembered - she bought me a pencil case and blank exercise books for my first day at "big school" - I was 25 and a six foot one 15 stone lad. The "My little pony" pencil case has not been used as yet.......

Last year my sister bought my DH a jar of apple chutney - he was not impressed and is still on about it when we talk about what to get her this Christmas!

A few years ago my Mum got a present from a dear old friend of ours (96 years young now) whose eyesight was failing, and it was a pack of moist toilet tissues! Mum just had to laugh!

Thankfully the worst present I've had recently was a 'Hunks' jigsaw from the MIL last year. Not even anyone on ebay would buy it!!

I once got a big bag of reindeer feed. I ate most of it before realising what it was.
