OK - I give in, so many people telling me mac is better than windows, I want to give it a fair try.
So..where do I buy a copy of "mac"? Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Hahah so computer illiterate! http://www.apple.com/ for a brand new one, they also sell them in Currys, Comet, probably most PC shops, you can get one off Tesco Direct. 2nd hand one's can be found on eBay, also Amazon. (2nd hand Macs will be available at a lot of other places but they are the only 2 I'd recommend for secutiry really.)0

 Thanks fro your reply, but
 ...you misunderstood.
I already have a computer, quad core, nidia GPU, 4Gb ram, 2.5Gb of storage etc.., assembled to a very high standard by myself.
I already own copies of microsoft windows and various flavours of linux, I'd like to know where I can legally purchase of copy of snow leopard for the same platform, none of the e-tailers I've looked at seem to stock it as a standalone item, yet I read a couple of days ago it's available for just £25, got to be worth a try at that price Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

            nope -
I don't own a Leopard license, not a mac, but I do have an intel based computer, so the OS should work on it, like windows/ubintu etc., but it seems I'm not allowed to try to find out?Snow Leopard is an upgrade for Leopard users and requires a Mac with an Intel processor.
 Why would that be?
maybe trolling a little bit...Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

The expense of macs are nothing more than a name. You buy the name, is all. It a fashion item and that about sums up the appeal. The adverts have made macs "cool" and kids like cool thats why they want them.
It always makes me chuckle to see the "buy a mac you can run windows in bootcamp" line. Why would I buy an over expensive bit of hardware with a pre-installed OS to have to buy a copy of windows as well? What non-sense.
Fact is hardware for hardware macs are PCs so theres no justification for the massive price of apple software which is the only thing I can think that makes up the price. If I can build myself a machine running the same hardware for half the price of a mac (which I can, I've tried) for say £1000 without an OS (Hell if I install linux thats with an OS); that means OSX costs £1000. Makes windows >£100 look positively cheap!
The argument about them lasting longer is a fallacy as well. The fact is a PC will last just as long if it needs to but PC owners want an upgrade every now and then, like 3-5 years not the 10 it would take to save up for an upgrade from apple.
Also apple have not overtaken microsoft.0

OK - there are PC diehards and Mac diehards and they fight their own corners for some obscure reason and seen not too open-minded. It's only a computer chaps - why argue?
 My experience is this:
I used a PC with various incarnations of Microsoft Windows for 15 years. Most of these were custom built - I think only the first one was off the shelf.
Four years ago I bought an iMac. The quality of the build plus the ease of use of the OS surprised and delighted me. I couldn't believe that a computer could be so free from the problems, updates, necessity for anti-virus and dreaded 'update Tuesdays' that I now experienced.
Yes Macs are not cheap but how I wish I had bought one very much earlier.0

There's also a lot of people saying Windows PCs are better than Macs. The difference being, most Mac users have used Windows.
I used to have a quad core, 4GB, 2TB machine. Impressive, huh? Built it myself (to a very high standard obviously). Gave it up for a Mac Mini Don't miss the PC one bit. I've installed Windows 7, but never used it.
Now I have a PC that's silent, that I can take anywhere, that does everything my PC did (plus run Mac OS), that integrates better with my Iphone, has a sleep function that's reliable. Plus I can send video / music straight to my TV with the click of a button - wirelessly. I can back up my internal and external drives with 1 click (does windows even ship with back up software?). Plus when I come to upgrade I'll likely get around 75% of the purchase price back.
There's plenty of reasons for choosing a Mac. If lowest price if your only goal, then stick with a PC.
Databaseerror, you asked earlier why people don't ask to run Mac software on Windows; can I ask why you never hear of people wanting to switch from a Mac To Windows?
You also asked how you can run Mac OS on your PC. If you had built a compatible PC you could have. Maybe next time.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0

redcard..surely you can spot gentle trolling....I even added ninjatext to give it away :P
 However,
I have used a mac, but it was several years ago, and not for long. I wasn't keen, probably due to my inexperience with the OS.
I have an virtually silent PC, All stock coolers were removed from GPU and case, replaced with decent ones, and I have a high quality CPU cooler. So, not silent, but I only know it's on by the blue light on the case and the display as it nearly is
I have an android phone not an iphone...works ok, connects via bluetooth or cable... 'nuff said (i make phone calls on it, the keyboard is great..I use a camera for pictures)
Windows does ship with a backup solution..seems to work.
I can't stream audio/video to my TV..never considered trying, but I imagine there's an inexpensive and simple solution.
I've been building PCs since ..erm...mid 90s, and I never get a penny back on them. I always upgrade (or .. just once, start fresh) and the spare components are passed to my kids or other family/friends who then benefit from my upgrade, sharing the good fortune, as it were. Once components drop off the "useful to me and mine" pile I freecycle them.
I'm not allowed to find out if my PC is compatible with OSx, as apple insist it is only used on their proprietary hardware.
As stated in another thread, I can understand people buying Macs, I have no problem with that, it's not my money, and if it's good enough for Stephen Fry who am I to say it's wrong?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

You're right is does depend on what you're measuring, but it still stands that desktop for desktop microsoft have the market share something like over 90% which apple will never match, ever.
Microsofts market cap doesn't irk me at all since I'm a linux user most of the time.
I understand people will pay well over the odds for a named product that does nothing better than a cheaper counterpart sometimes a lot less. That is after all what fashion is all about. And I'm not surprised apple have a bigger cap since they over charge their customers for under powered hardware running over hyped software, if people want to pay for that that's up to them, there's no cure for stupidity.0
