Threatening to stop my JSA, non applying for a job

You can't seriousily mean that. OK it may not state in your agreement you have to write it down, but in practice how can you not do that and walk out without a sanction.
I've had this discussion with job centre advisers. I always said to them 'show me in the law where it says to write it down'. Strangely, none of them could. Not once.
If a person signs on and, when asked what they have done to look for work, verbally lists 5 things, in practice how can they do that and walk out with a sanction?0 -

Actually you could get a sanction as you have to list 3 each week making six in total..lol
But yes i see where you are coming from and i totally agree. But you would be a brave person to go without benefit till it was all cleared up. You would go through appeal after appeal and probably go to court in the end to get it sorted.
I have to sign on tomorrow. I'll ask the advisor where in law it says you have to and see what they say.0 -
In my one you'd be lucky to get off with getting sent to a decision maker if you had written down 6! lol0

JSA is a weekly benefit ;-)
But, yes, ask them. They won't be able to tell you.
I used to be a decision maker and I would get referrals stating the person's ASE was in doubt because they hadn't completed an ES4. I would write to the person and say in the week --/--/-- to --/--/-- what did you do to look for work? What jobs did you apply for? blah blah
When I got the response I would allow it and ask the adviser why they thought it was suitable for referral. The answer was generally 'they didn't fill out their es4'. Thats when I would pose my question and not get an answer :rotfl:0 -

This is no word of a lie, but this past two weeks i have written down 14 jobs that i have applied for and also put down 2 received e-mails saying i hadn't been shortlisted for interview. The 14 jobs arn't all the ones either, i reckon i have applied for around 20 in total.0 -
It's a pain isn't it
Hopefully we'll both have a bit of luck sooner rather than later.
I had a crazy idea just, not that I'm not going to do it... but to basically have thousands upon thousands of letters, boxes full - about 20 should do. Go into the Job Centre on signing on day, wait for them to complain then give the signal for 20 friends to bring in one box each and put them beside the deskThat enough for you

Would be a good local news story, give the local paper a call and get them to come along. I dare you.0 -
The government are creating a climate of fear at every job centre.
Threatening to stop peoples money for the slightest mistake.
Its all to put pressure onto people to take any job, even if its not suitable.0 -
Of course it can't state they must be written down as this would discriminate against those who are illiterate, but if you haven't kept a record of any kind, then you need a darn good memory to provide a list of employers and their specific vacancies that you applied for if the JC advisor asks.
Also the fact that adjudicators refer back to the advisor (or what have you) regarding what the client has done is down the the sanction claim not being specific enough. So in the case of proving you applied for a specific position it's different anyway.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Uh, no.
Looking in the paper is a step.
You don't have to write anything anywhere or show anything to anybody
My jobseekers agreement states I will apply for 4 vacancies per week and if there is nothing available I will contact employers not currently advertising. I will keep a written record....... I will visit my local jobcentre plus office/call jobseeker direct/look on jobcentreplus website twice a week.
So mine does state vacancies as well as steps I must take.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
