  • Sounds like a nightmare situation. Hopefully you'll get something soon and you can put all of this behind you.

    Good luck...

Went in today, it has now gone to the decision maker. Whilst I was there they tried to report me to the decision maker yet another time as I didn't fill in the 'Looking for work' (ES4JP) to the advisors satisfaction - I had written 5 things down for the week (weekly signing), yet this wasn't deemed enough - whereas every other advisor I have seen always tell me that 2-3 is ample, as long as 1 of those is a job application.

She kept saying, it's contracted to me to do so, I've signed it etc, whereas if I read the contract 3 steps per week is what it states (ie, looking in paper, looking on internet, applying for a job) - I had gone above and beyond this with 5, of which 4 were jobs! She was having none of it, told me I needed to fill in a certain form which then went to another decision maker - it was only when I took out a folder with copies of the applications I had sent that she finally relented. She says the new government are wanting at least 1 sheet per week (7 entries) and that it is covered in my contract.

I appreciate and can do 7, no problems - just think the way they are going about it is totally wrong, really felt dehumanised in there today.

I think she is telling you porkies. You only need to do what it says in your agreement. That is what it is an agreement between you and the dwp. My agreement says and i have been signing on for 17 months, take 3 steps a week to find work... how she can peanilise you for applying for 5 jobs is beyond me
  • Mine says three steps too, she wouldn't have it. She was saying, well don't write 'looked in local newspapers' write each one on a seperate line! She said I need to fill in at least 7 entries a week, wouldn't have it any other way.

The law will always trump what an idiot in the jobcentre thinks. Ignore her, providing they are steps no decision maker would disallow.
  • Do they have targets on referrals to decision makers you reckon? Think that'd make a lot of sense....

They used to have targets on 'successful' referrals. NO idea about now

Each individual will have different requirements in their jobseekers agreement.

They should have explained though that it's no use just writing looked in the paper you do need to actually write down the jobs you applied for or if there wasn't anything suitable etc.

Luckily our jobcentre does explain this and our agreements also state how many vacancies per week you have to apply for.

You don't have to write them in the booklet either but you do have to keep a record and be able to show it when signing. I keep mine on the computer and print it out every fortnight.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

    Uh, no.

Looking in the paper is a step.

You don't have to write anything anywhere or show anything to anybody
  • I always write the names of the jobs I have found in the boxes below, I say what I have done, what I will do, and when. All the details that are requested of me. Not sure why she had such a bee in her bonnet today, wasn't a pleasant experience.

You can't seriousily mean that. OK it may not state in your agreement you have to write it down, but in practice how can you not do that and walk out without a sanction.
