Threatening to stop my JSA, non applying for a job

  • The letter said to contact the employer, above that was a phone number, below was an address. I sent in my CV/Cover letter (in hindsight a mistake!)- at no point did I refuse to apply. Had advice from a friend who works in one of the offices, albeit up in Scotland. According to her I should be ok as long as I take in some evidence that I have been applying for jobs.

I'm sorry but your friend seems to be confusing ASE rules with RE rules. It doesn't matter what other jobs you have applied for, just this one.

Refusal of employment is a bit of a misnomer as it also covers Failure to apply. Applying in a manner other than that stated in the advert can be a failure.
  • Well I applied, and it didn't actually start a preferred method, just a case of did they get it - their word against mine, would be harsh if they sanctioned me for that!
  • And some call life on Job Seekers a great life...reading these posts makes me think I'd rather cut my own throat than have to sign on...my sympathies, it sounds hellish.

But they don't care. To the adjudicator it's down to your proof (which you have to be able to show wh8ich is pretty much impossible when you send an application by post) against the employers word.

Like I said my OH has been sanctioned and we didn't evenhave any forewarning, as the notification letter came the same day the reduced payment went into our account.

The jobcentre advisior even said that he has a good record of applying for jobs and nothing against him on his record, but his good past record meant nothing in this situation.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I agree, it must be awful having to follow a simple direction. It must be even worse to actually have a job and have to follow directions everyday. :p
    Gone ... or have I?

How does the data protection act affect employers reporting whether you've applied or not to the jobecentre?
ps, Remember to make a complaint if it does seem like the jobcentre staff are messing you around.

Do they actually follow up then..? I have been signing on for over a year and they have never given me any jobs and said to go for them. I never write the company name down in the book, just looked in local paper, applied for whatever jobs, await to hear if selected for interview. They do occasionally ask if i have heard anything and depending on wether i have or not is the answer i give them.
  • Went in today, it has now gone to the decision maker. Whilst I was there they tried to report me to the decision maker yet another time as I didn't fill in the 'Looking for work' (ES4JP) to the advisors satisfaction - I had written 5 things down for the week (weekly signing), yet this wasn't deemed enough - whereas every other advisor I have seen always tell me that 2-3 is ample, as long as 1 of those is a job application.

She kept saying, it's contracted to me to do so, I've signed it etc, whereas if I read the contract 3 steps per week is what it states (ie, looking in paper, looking on internet, applying for a job) - I had gone above and beyond this with 5, of which 4 were jobs! She was having none of it, told me I needed to fill in a certain form which then went to another decision maker - it was only when I took out a folder with copies of the applications I had sent that she finally relented. She says the new government are wanting at least 1 sheet per week (7 entries) and that it is covered in my contract.

I appreciate and can do 7, no problems - just think the way they are going about it is totally wrong, really felt dehumanised in there today.
