Those who followed Marine Life will be grumpy,
But to be fair to that poster, I always thought that with his millions he definitely did not need us. And I figured this out. Took me a while but I got there in the end!0 -
I suppose if you are anything like me you are a "FIRE wannabe" In that you are not financially dependent on having to work and can pull the trigger at any time.
The way I feel at the moment 55 can't come soon enough (2 years 2 months, not that I am counting!!!) However who knows when the time comes if I am enjoying the job I may stay longer and build up more savings.
It is really difficult to predict what your future self/ working life will be.
I keep looking at hypothetical holidays for when I have retired, boring my oh by telling him the bargain holidays we could have if we were free to go anytime.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
I spent the day holding my mums hand in the hospital. She retired late and fell sick straight away. There are no words for just how much we wish we had spent more time together as a family, but my mum won't be coming home again, there is nothing we can do.
If you have the money to not have to work then I cannot emphasise enough just how precious every day is. You will never get those two years back again, spend them with your family and friends, enjoy life. Don't take life for granted like we did, time is a precious gift that falls through our hands like grains of sand.Think first of your goal, then make it happen!0 -

I have a list app with lots of potential holidays - I have shared it with DH. He hasn't added any of his own as yet.
On another note, we are dropping my van off next week to be converted into a camper. We plan to take a few adhoc breaks in it this year as DD has A levels next year and point blank refuses to go on holiday with us. All her free time between now and then is committed to either DofE, an orchestra tour to Paris, music practice, vet work experience or revision.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I like having a "hypothetical" search on HolidayPirates etc. Nice to dream of my future chilled out, retired life.:)
My youngest is in GCSE year so life revolving around revision. We are taking him and 3 of his friends to Centerparcs end of June. We took them all last year and had a great time, it was like being away with the Inbetweeners. Unfortunately we are in the habit of going to Disneyworld every year so that is my financial downfall.
I am hoping that when my son is 18 and finished his A levels we won't feel guilty about going away and leaving him for weeks at a time for bargain breaks
One of the girls in my work has a second hand converted camper van and she said it is the best investment they have ever made cos of the number of breaks away they have had. They go away most weekends, were in Scotland all last week and drive over to France regularly.
My husband doesn't enjoy driving long distance and doesn't help that I am a nervous passenger so not sure how much we woukd enjoy it. It is in my hypothetical plans to rent a camper van to find out. There again so are most things!!Money SPENDING Expert0 -
Of course Marine_life is for real; I'm amazed that some people cannot see how and why others pursue different objectives from their own. However in their defence I'll note that there might well be an example of 'mars and venus' here. Some people (usually male) just have a much lower sense of emotional attachment to friends and family, and place a higher emphasis on the intellectual challenge of a particular type of work, not forgetting that any work that you enjoy doesn't seem like work.
Personally I'm very grateful to people like this, as they keep working and paying taxes which help pay for my SP!The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
