Seems it's not a new thing either. I'm seriously amazed by this.

They pay enough to attract talented and capable people but they tend to be talented and capable people who also care about the cause and don't mind accepting a lower salary than they might be able to get in business.

And that is the 'going rate' for that type of organisation as I have already stated.

I was referring to the 'going rate' for charity CEO's - not a comparison with profit making organisations.

Just read the thread you put up Pimento. i am both shocked and disgusted. And the OP of this thread could actually lose her Carers Allowance while doing this "trial" I thought you went out to work to earn money not to lose it! Carers UK might be intereted to know about this as well!

opps loool see's i been rumbled by the LBC fans ;),

so, as some of you heard im back in tonight ,
was a little shocked at this , as where the 2 workers who started with me, (ohh yes we started as 4 and are now 3 the other guy had enough)
the women at job center told us that we would do the 2 days then a day off, seems she was wrong,,

im starting to ache now hope i cope tonight ,

CHUCKLEY>>>r u the lady that was talking about it on LBC this morn? having heard it, im now totally disgusted they r allowed to get away with this. i mean they claim its a 'work trial' and at the end tell people 'off u go'. even the hardest workers there. and then they get another set of 'trial' ppl in and start the cycle again all the while paying NOBODY for the 30+ hs a week job/trial/placement. The very least they can do is pay travel and food. night transport aint easy for some folk.<<,,

WELL WE DO GET FREE LUNCH whoop whoop!!,, :D,
and your exactly right it would seem that this is what their doing,
Also what i said was true after speaking to some people their seems 1 boy started with a few people he was only one who got a job and said that even i asked him if he felt that he co worker worked hard and his reply was "some took the pee, some quit,
but seems a couple were really good hard workers but still never got the job and where REALLY angry about it,
then on to the nxt lot of slaves,,

even the real staff their say the store is loving this,,

the lady that worked in staff canteen come and sat with us 3 last night and she told of her disgust at whats happening, (remember she knows us slaves as we eat free and she serves up dinners to everyone)
she even went as far as saying that its mostly white people their taking on ,
and that even if we get the job we'll be gone by January,,

iv also spoken to a women who started a month ago and got her job by ringing the store where they asked her to come and do a 1 night worktrial and she got the job from their on,

seems by going thu the job center iv have gone about it the wrong way really,
as some poster on here said they are treating me like im on jsa,

i spoke to one supervisor their last night and she told me that this is the way the government are doing it now,, to which i had to ask,, what the goverment has to do with tesco hiring people,, she looked shocked when i told her i wernt on jsa and asked why i was doing it then,
i told her the job center told me this 3was the only way that her store are hiring anyone now,

few hours later she came and told me that i would now only be doing 10 days as appose to the 2 weeks,,
(oh yes forgot to mention that during last night shift my co slave came to me with his supervisor wanting me to confirm that we had been told it was 10 days not 2 weeks as he had only just been told it was 2 weeks last night when we all where told 7-10 days at that point it was confirmed by 2 supervisors that we would be doing it for 2 weeks,)
but that 2 weeks changed to 10 days for me a few hours later after my conversation with said supervisor,

i now think their has been a major boo boo caused by the incompetence of the job center staff who even tho they new i was not on jsa they told porkies about the way the store hire, seems i could have gone to store directly , but would this have got me a job?
when they got all this free labour coming in?,,
or would i have been told that they are recruiting thu job center??,

either way im liking what im doing and feel i have proved myself and will do even better tonight
i see No reason why i should not get the job, im not geting out of the store till 7.45am as it is cos im still busy facing up, (pulling my stock to front and tidying ) this is where my OCD comes in as i want it looking Just So looool,

i do however now feel that i may now just give my cv and state my qualification to the manager in the week as i feel iv proved i can do it and am more than willing to improve on what im doing already,,

think i said at the start of this thread somewhere that im a real pessimist and i have been told by many people that i run myself down alot so much that i dont even know im doing it, its other people that notice it from me i just feel im a very unlucky person,,
it would be just my luck that i dont get the job no matter how well i think iv done,
but, (dare i say it) i have to really give myself credit and thats a Very Rare thing for me to do, for taking to this work so well,

also want to say that if i dont get it i will be wanting a valid reason as to why, and frankly it will be them that DONT deserve me anyway!

will keep you all posted on how things go,
and thanks to all who are supportive of what i am doing lets hope it all pays off :T
  • I think if they don't give you a job a the end I will go and have words with that store manager. As I'm 9 months pregnant that would be a scary sight! I can get quite grumpy and cross at the moment!

ohhh dont you worry i would have plenty to say to Mr Nick Ferrari , and certain tabloids should all my hard work fail i have just read the link posted by Pimento, and must say now im a even more dubious of this whole thing,,

specially after my supervisor said last night that its what the government doing this, make me think im now being taken for a ride,,

im thinking maybe the job center are to blame and believe i would have a good case against them for puting my here and causing me to lose money on the promise of a job that dont exist or that they know im not going to get,

i am ringing carers people tomorra to see how i stand as i just looked it up again, as i know i had to give it up before when i was at collage start of the year,

You must not be a full-time student
If you study for 21 hours or more a week, you won't qualify for the Carer's Allowance. You cannot claim during any temporary absence from the course or during the holidays.
If you study less than 21 hours a week you can get the Carer's Allowance. Only time spent in "supervised" study counts towards the 21 hours. It does not include breaks but can include coursework or homework set by the tutor.

i was doing just over the 21 hours,
not sure how i stand with a work trial being that im working 36 1/2 hours this week alone,

and after tonight will have clocked up 24 hours work,

would be just my luck i'll loss it,

will check all this out tommorow,,

OP is it the big firm that likes to have a supermarket everywhere you look,

as far as i know if you apply directly to the store in question you dont go on a work trial

well i think they do now as a lady i spoke to last night started a month ago she only did a 1 nights trial though,, seems if you go though job center no matter what your circumstances your going to be doing a long hard work trial,
and in my case probably lose money this week, but i will talk again to the carers see what they say , as its not fair on me of my family ,
