  • Its not your fault Cindy. You rightfully assumed that the job would be full time as the work trial was full time. I suspect that other work triallers on JSA will be filling the hours that the manager says you wont be getting. However you have more than proved yourself to them and hopefully he will change his mind tonight as they would be absolute fools to lose a hard worker like you. Good luck.

FWIW - I'm not an employer and I probably dont live near you anyway. But - if I were a local employer I would certainly take on someone like you for any vacancy that you were suitable for.

Are they only offerring 15 hr contracts to everyone who participates in this, that they wish to employ afterwards?

Cos if they are how does that work in conjuction with the JC cos you need to work at least 16 hours to get WTC (if you have children). You need to work 16 hours to come off IS/JSA, otherwise you only keep so much of your wages £20 if lone parent, £5 otherwise and then you lose £1 benefit for every £1 earned.

Maybe I am just being very cynical.

Right i really hope someone can help me here as im now stuck at what to do,

last night i ask manager about full time roll,
he says he has a couple he saving for people who seem worthy, well he said special,
(i dont know weather i believe this or not)

So my 5th night went on like this,
10pm im on sweets (been their from start and im knowing this now)they put another guy on biscuits who's not done them before but im going to be helping him when i finished sweets (no problem with that but he started to protest saying im the "New girl")
i told him in front of manager not to worry as i did same the other night and i promised to finish mine quick time and help him out,

i then started feeling i was telling him how to do his job as he kept asking Me "the New Girl"!! wheres this and that,

then at 10.30pm All change they come and introduce a trainee manager (his first night)to me saying he will be doing biscuits and crisps with this guy and he will be back to help me with biscuits later,

so off they then BOTH GO TO DO CRISPS (crisps imo are a doggle and 2 hours work max)
i do my chocies and am done by 1am execpt for a delivery im waiting on and go for lunch till 2am, then my delivery of sweets has arrived, so i start on mine,

as im restocking these 2 BIG STAPING LADS ARE STILL DOING CRISPS , I hear myself over taking them on the isle behind mine, But theirs 2 of them ?,,, im done by 230 and the 2 grown men are STILL Doing crisps
    ,
i start clearing the empty biscuit boxes and tidying area up,,,

then by 330am, the trainee manager comes round to help BAHHHHH, (HELP MY !!!!)

HE DIDNT SEEM TO WANT TO GET ANY OF THE STOCK OFF THE TOP OF THE TROLLYS AND LEAVES ME DOING ALL THE HEAVY LIFTING,

4am BREAK, 4.30am im back on biscuits with no sign of this trainee manager who i started to feel i was carrying all night,

then at 5.20am he shows up and just walks up and down the isle holding a 9 pack of kit kat looking for where it goes,,,

by this time im now getting REALLY PEE'D OFF ,
then manager comes round at 6am saying we still got 5 trollys or biscuits to do ,
i look at the trainee and say right lets get going then,,
and he starts again walking up and down isle like a tit in a trance, leaving me to get all the heavy stuff off the trollys , (the man was a very big lad around 6ft tall) and me only little person,

i felt like he was taking the pee, and by 6'15am i told the union rep iv had it and am off home,,

they get all paniced and start running looking for manager and as im about to walk they stop me i explained to them that imo the crisp should never take as long as they did especially with 2 full grown big men doing it together,

and felt im being taken advantage of, he tells me im in line for the job and that they had noticed my work and that the trainee manager would not be their tomorro,

he said to go home and rest and come back tonight,,

i just have trouble believing anything they say as im after all free labour and know they gonna need me tonight,

Now this is where im stuck,,
i dont know what to do should i go in tonight ?
part of me thinks they Dont deserve me,
i feel so used , but part of me dont want to give up.

but after only 4 hours sleep today im still tried and feel like just sodding it all off,, help anyone plzzz,
  • I would not go back as they are taking advantage of you.

We all get lazy sods at work and i have often felt taken advantage of but at the end of the day i can say that i put in a real hard shift, it does wear you out doing the work of others as well as your own.

I think that you should have a word with the manager and ask to be taken on asap, call their bluff so to say, if your name is on the list for the job let them prove it with starting you right away.

thanks scooby i could do as you suggest but i feel the respose i would get would be that i would have to finish my work trial which is another 5 days working for free,
and im now REALLY NOT Happy about this while im basically feeling like im the one training and helping out the real staff who are getting paid here,

You have come this far, keep going. This job suits, maybe not at 15 hours but 15 hours is a foot in the door. The whole situation is c**p and they are probably stringing you along but complete the trial and take the experience forward if you get the job or not.

have been following this thread and just want to add support to you.

Hi cindy - I admire you so much cos I;m pretty sure I'd have walked by now.

The manager that says there's work available for 'special' people. Does he know that you are not on JSA and are doing this off your own bat so to speak?

BTW-how many hours would you need (I know you said 4 nights)?
  • ecgirl 15 hours is no good to me i would lose money, over 500 a month,
as for the experience i already have 23 years worth in retail, i have been working since iu was 15 years old all but the last 2 years, i have done various jobs over the years to fit in with my circumstances and can and will put my hand to anything .
im only doing this to get a full time job,
any less is no good to me,
i also cant afford to be strung along, and am sick of being taken for a Mug!!!
