One thing confuses me. I actually offered myself out to do some voluntary work but the jobcentre said it wasn't allowed and it would screw up my claim yet they can ship me out on meaningless work placements where I know for sure it won't lead to a full time job, What a screwed up system we have.0

And as mentioned by someone else earlier in this thread Tesco sell Fair Trade items like chocolate which supports the people who make it getting a fair wage for a fair days work. So its ok to make sure that people in other countries dont get exploited but its ok to exploit the workers in your own country!
What a bunch of hypocrites!0 -

:rotfl::rotfl: ohhh yes Dark Lady i had a Good ole :rotfl: to my self as i was on the sweets aisle during my time with tesco, and someone had said about the fair trade stuff they sell,, i had to :rotfl: when i took real notice as i stocked these fair trade chocies that well at least the person making them was getting a fair trade even if I the person PUTTING THEM ON THE SHELVES WAS NOT.
IN MY ANGER FRIDAY MORING OVER ME FEELING LIKE I WAS TRAINING UP A TRAINEE MANAGER, (AND A VERY LAZY ONE AT THAT)
I DID SAY TO THE MANAGER THAT I WOULD BE TAKING THIS TO THE PRESS, (he did say "hold on hold on before you go to the press with this then started spilling that i was in line for the job) blablabla,,,
As it goes if Anyone on here would like to help me put it in words as to what has gone on (REMEMBER IM NOT ON JSA OR IS,, IM JUST A OUT OF WORK WOMEN WITH A FAMILY AND A PARTNER WHO WORKS FULL TIME TO KEEP US ALL)
I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS OUT THEIR , EXPOSE WHATS GOING ON AS I DO FEEL ITS EXPLOTING THE JOB SEEKERS (ON BENEFITS OR NOT) AT AN ALREADY BAD TIME. OHH AND DOES ANY KNOW WHICH NEWS PAPER WOULD BE THE BEST TO CONTACT TO RAISE THIS TOPIC?.0 -

I'd probable contact Five Live Investigates, they did a programme on unpaid interns and a couple weeks back a programme on the visa system with skilled migrants working in unskilled jobs in the UK

I feel for you Cindy, you've worked hard for no pay and obviously really want to work. Not only that but you have worked nights and I'm sure that's easy until you're used to it.
I would add a word of caution about going to the Press though. You and your family circumstances will be exposed to the public eye and that might not be pleasant and I know you have a disabled child. The glare of publicity is not always a good thing.
Also, Tesco aren't going to change their policy because of one case and they will put their understanding of details of your situation to the Press too: that you mistakenly took the placement which was designed for JSA people; that the manager asked you to return the next night and that you were in line for a job.
I am playing devil's advocate here to show you what might happen if you decide to declare war on them.
My view in life is only fight the battles you can win and from the details you have given you can't win and anyway what do you want to win?
The manager virtually offered you a job on the spot.
Also, your name may be tarnished from this battle and other local employers, who may employ you now, may not in future.
So, proceed with caution. Don't cut your nose off to spite your own face.
I would go to the other large retailers in your locality with your CV - updated to show the unpaid placement, and ask if they have any openings for you.
How about trying to get two part time night jobs that add up to the full time hours you want? Would that work for you?
Would you go back to Tesco for part time hours if you could make up the hours with another retailer?0 -

You wont loose money- they have something called work trial and you get money plus travel.
Personally if iwas an employer id see how many people take this up, if they did i would employ, i would do it, if it meant getting a job full time, it shows "i will try my hardest"
I understand your postion, but if you want a job, and you dont loose money, youd do it0 -
