• On June 28th 2011 I googled credit card scores and had the option of a number of sites to check my score. I needed to do this as I was trying to recover my score from a previous low point 10 years ago and therefore hoping that it was going in the right direction. I came across credit card matters and since they stated that if I cancelled within the first 10 days I WOULD NOT get charged, I thought why not? I registered but could not get onto the site with the pin they sent, so phoned them straight away to tell them that I did not want to proceed and to cancel - which the guy said he had done and no charge was forth coming. I then chose another company which has dealt with me very professionally.
I then check my credit card statement and £19.95 has gone out. I phoned them up and after waiting 5 mins get through to be told that I never cancelled it (LIE) , and was not getting a refund, but she says it was cancelled from today’s phone call ( I will wait and see if that happens).
I have also contacted my credit card provider to make sure no-more payments go through as this company is ripping people who cannot afford to keep paying these extortionate charges away.
What can I do!

:eek:

This is my first post here, hello all.

I too experienced acute frustration with Rewards Now and Credit Score Matters. Absolute rubbish. I didn't agree to any terms and conditions, no ASDA voucher. Nothing at all.

Anyway, my first letter of complaint to them wasn't challenging enough, and I received a response saying they wouldn't be able to refund me. Their idea of proof of me entering an agreement with them, was to attach a screenshot of their website. Quite insufficient methinks.

I then proceeded to write the below, and received this positive response. They have said that they will refund me within 7-10 days. I will confirm with you all if it happens.

Don't give up. And should you want to take anything from my letter below, please feel free and I really hope you succeed.

All the best,
ClarkyCat

Correspondence with CreditScoreMatters/Rewards Now/Adaptive -- whoever the devil they are

Dear Faye,

Thank you for your email received on 26 July 2011.

A full refund of £39.90 has been processed on your behalf. Please allow 7-10 working days for this be credited to your account.

We are always happy to help and welcome the possibility of you subscribing with Credit Score Matters in the future.

Yours sincerely,

To: Contact Creditscorematters; Contact Rewardsnow

I write further to the debits that your company has made from my bank account on xxxx xxxxx xxxx, in the sum of £xx.xx by Credit Score Matters and a £xx.xx by Rewards Now. I do not recall agreeing to your organisation taking such payments. Furthermore, I do not appear to have received any products or services from either of these companies. Please acknowledge receipt of this email and provide the following information:

- Details of the terms and conditions on which you are relying in order to take these payments and evidence of my agreement to such terms;

- Details of how you came to receive my bank details/debit card details;

- A screen shot showing how the terms and conditions were presented on your website;

I am deeply unhappy at what I consider to be the very underhanded tactics used to establish my account. Clearly I am not the only person who feels this way, as a search on the internet reveals much adverse comment and publicity.

I confirm that I wish to cancel any subscription with immediate effect and do not authorise any further payments. I also request an immediate refund of any payments taken from my account. In the absence of an agreement to refund these charges I require that you provide a copy of your complaints procedure and details of any third parties to whom you are obliged to refer unresolved complaints.

Should you fail to provide the above in timely manner I reserve the right to report the matter to the Office of Fair Trading.

Regards,

These guys ripped me off and refuse to refund my money so its time to start digging.

For a start I will name the director of the company who operates with or on behalf of creditscorematters.co.uk His name is

Andrew Millet and he has been director of this scam since the 11/08/2010.

Keep logging in I will continue to post information including all names associated with this scam along with home addresses.:mad:

Don't give up. I know it's extremely infuriating, I was unsuccessful in my first letter of complaint to them, but try again. Have a look at my response (below) I was successful in getting a refund, well, so they say. It will take 7-10 days but I will be watching my bank like a dam hawk.

Good luck. Down with the *********.

when I phoned them today the guy told me you should have called !!!!!!? why do you have a form that doesn't work in the first place if I have to call?!

Common sense would suggest that you call anyway, not rely on an email???

The problem with calling them is that the company in question prefers you to do it rather than things being in writing. You're playing right into their hands if you rely on a phone call. They presumably receive dozens of calls a day from people asking the exact same questions so they're well rehearsed when it comes to fobbing people off.

Many people allege that they are told by the staff at this company that there in no way they are going to get a refund and it's effectively "tough". Lets face it, they can say whatever they like on the phone and there's no proof of them saying it.

This company is a brand operated by Adaptive Affinity and it seems that complaints such as this are commonplace. However, many people have got their money back but only by taking the formal approach of putting everything in writing. If you read this thread you'll see how people have been refunded despite being told over the telephone that they had no chance whatsoever of getting their money back. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1836087

I've spoken to the staff of their sister company (RewardsNow) on they phone myself and what I'm saying is basically that it's pointless wasting your breath on them. There are template letters in the above thread which have been successful at cornering the company and forcing refunds out of them. Most refunds are forthcoming after sending these templates via email but if you're worried about them going astray, you could always send them via royal mail recorded delivery.
• Hi, I also signed up about 2 weeks ago for a FREE credit summary to see where I was with my debts.... However, they have very quickly taken £19.95 from my bank account....

I have not recieved any emails from these people and I didn't even recieve a verification email from them either, I feel ripped of by them... I have asked now to cancel, but awaiting a response from them... I am not happy as I have not had any emails, post etc from them... so basically I have paid £19.95 for nothing!! How should this be allowed.... I think we should ALL contact Watchdog about this as not anywhere did I see I would be charged £19.95... I am now facing bank charges due to this as a Direct debit failed.... Very unhappy with them..

The below template has resulted in refunds in some cases. I'd give it a go if I were you. Alter it to fit your circumstances then send it to contact@creditscorematters.co.uk or via Royal mail recorded delivery. You can also send it via their "contact us" page https://www.creditscorematters.co.uk/shopcustcontact.asp

DATE XX/XX/2011

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: Unauthorised withdrawal of funds.

I note that your company has taken the sum of £XX.XX from my bank account on (date/dates) . I believe that any such transaction was carried out without my express permission. I would therefore like to make the following requests:
• The provision of clarification as to the electronic process used by your company in order to establish (in your opinion) that I willingly accepted membership. Presumably you are reliant upon the use of an encrypted electronic signature? If so, I would like to request the provision of a copy of this information in accordance with the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the Electronic Signatures Regulations 2002. If your intention is to claim that a membership cannot be activated without my acceptance of your terms and conditions, please be aware that any suggestion to effectively "take your word for it" will in no way be accepted as legally valid evidence. Any such statement should be accompanied by evidence which substantiates the claim.
• The provision of a copy any ORIGINAL "welcome email" which you may allege was sent to me by your company, complete with time and date stamp. I will not accept, as evidence, a generated template copy of this email which is devoid of an authentic time and date stamp. Furthermore, you should be aware that under no circumstances would the provision of copies of ANY generic document, devoid of a valid time and date stamp be accepted as legitimate evidence of acceptance of your terms and conditions.
• The provision of details of any potential fee charged by your company in relation to a Subject Access Request made under the Data Protection Act 1998. I may wish to exercise my right to issue you with this request, although this is entirely dependant upon your response to this correspondence. You may be aware that your company is legally obliged to comply in full with any such request. According to the above mentioned Act, I am entitled to be told if any personal information is held about me and if it is, I should be given:
1. a copy of all information in permanent format
2. an explanation of any technical or complicated terms;
3. any information your company has about where you obtained your information from;
4. a description of the information, the purposes for processing the information and who the organisation is sharing the information with; and
5. the logic involved in any automated decisions
• I request the provision of a full a refund of £XX.XX to be made to my bank account with immediate effect as well as the receipt of a full written apology for the unnecessary inconvenience and stress caused to myself.
Please be aware that copies of ALL correspondence between myself and your company (and records of any failure to respond) will be made available to the relevant authorities and organisations should I deem it neccessary.

I look forward to your swift response.

Yours sincerely,

Thanks to all on this site. Like a fool I applied for the free 10 day trial but I did not check-out this company on the web until after I have given my card details.

half an hour later I found your posts and was able to ring my bank and block & cancel my debit card so they can not take any money from my account (I know its a pain having to wait for my bank to send me a new debit card but at least they will not be able to scam any money from me).

Anyway, I rang creditscorematters and did get through. I told them what I Had done and the idiot on the phone said "we will still take money off your new card". I said how will you do that as you don't have, and I am not going to supply you with my new debit card details; "WHAT A MUPPET"

Thanks aqin to this great site for the info to stop me getting scammed!
