I take it then - that you would not recommend that I transfer my phone line to Opal (aka Talk Talk) ?

Well the good news is this mornings' e-mail to Dido promted an email from her within half an hour, promising an investigation. Then got a phone call about two hours later from some Talk Talk minion. Shame he hadn't prepared for the call by reading my complaint letter; his first words were to ask to speak to my dead father:mad:

Their incompetence has gone to another level. Anyway have been advised I will get a refund "within 28 days".......

I have just joined but have read with interest your comments. Tiscali has been good till last week or so but my phone landline not working but broadband OK. I've sent 3 emails with no response and tried to phone on my mobile tech dept (outsourced!) kept me waiting then cut me off, cost £1.22! I will now try the Dido Number, thanks for all the info.

That's normally a sign that one wire is disconnected somewhere or other.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I think if anyone is using BT they would be well advised to check cost of calls
I have free week-end and evening calls and sometimes wife talks for more than hour
BT try to charge these extra minutes at day rate and not evening rate
When queried that just change bill, no apology no indication that they will correct bills belonging to others
  • To anyone reading this - DONT JOIN THEM SIMPLE AS............................
  • I had the misfortune to join them on Nov 30th this year--since then I have had no 1571 voicemail service--I rang them 2nd dec and they said it would be activated in 24 hours-it wasnt-rang again and again--then on dec 11th I rang and was told it had been de-activated on Dec 9th--I said not possible as it had never been activated--they said it would now be activated-and so on and so forth GGGGGRRRRR--- few days ago they had us unplugging phone sockets to check there was no fault here-poor hubby was hanging on the mobile for 90 mins--waiting for the chap to confirm what was happening-then got cut off! I rang again yesterday and was told that I shoud borrow a phone that had an answer phone when I explained I ran a business and really needed the message service as I was possibly losing trade through not having the 1571!!.
Im getting pretty mad now--have been passed from pillar to post--we did get a text saying they had checked the line and there was no fault--sent back fault still there and just had another one saying a senior engineer was looking into it. Im not holding out much hope though--we are tied in to a 18 month contract--is there any way I can get out of it?--I have kept my broadband with orange as -touch wood--there seems to be no problem with it-and it works fine-and free with my mobile.
I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....
  • You need to contact OTELO who helo you resolve these complaints, I was in deadlock with these Talktalk when they took over my tiscali b'band so I changed suppliers, they kept trying to bill me after the change and I had removed my d/debit so they piled up the charges and sent debt collectors letters.

I wrote to them as per OTELO instructions, once I mentioned OTELO it completely resolved, TT were sorry for their mistake and of course I didnt owe them money now.

If you search on my name then the thread should come up on this forum.

Diane, I had exactly the same problem, no caller ID and no 1571 for several weeks, then I lost my service alltogether which was resolved after £10 of mobile phone calls to talktalk who had me doing the whole unplugging the sockets routine!

Does anyone have a normal email address for talktalk customer services? I'm at the end of my tether with calling their customer services about a billing question and getting nowhere, so I tried sending it on their contact us form, but to add insult to injury, after I typed it all out, I got a message saying it didn't meet their limits and it won't send!

I got an email back from them 8 days after using their contact form and it came from customerservices@talktalk.co.uk so you could try sending to them. However, my experience of dealing with Talk Talk has led me to come to the following conclusions:
    Email support - useless!
    Talk Talk Forum - useless!
    Telephone support - useless!

I too am at the end of my tether with Talk Talk "customer service" after 8 days of having no telephone line at all. We also live in an area where there is no mobile reception and work from home as well so really need the landline. Every time you contact Talk Talk you have to start again from the beginning and get told to go through the whole unplugging telephone routine, but you never seem to get anywhere with solving the problem!

I am seriously considering getting another supplier - the only trouble is I can't remember when my contract is due to end and can't bear the prospect of trying to find out from customer service - it will probably be another epic undertaking just to do that.
    Nice to save.
