Cold Weather Payments

  • Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if we'll be entitled:
One working parent, one stay-at-home mum - on child tax credit but income is over the lower rate threshold. We have one baby of six months and one child of 4yrs.

I don't usually expect or ask for anything but we are really struggling to pay our gas meter this winter so far. £10 only lasts 3-4 days if that with the heating on very low which is proving to be a nightmare. Every spare penny is going on trying harder to keep the heating in (thick curtains/door curtains, even on internal doors, sealing all window areas etc) but it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference. General temp in the house with heating on is 12-14 degrees during the day, and this drops to 7 or 8 at night and i'm supposing this'll get worse as the weather gets worse over the next coming months. Not good with the little ones. :(

Both kids sleep in my bed to keep warm now which is the bit they love though, lol. :D

I don't think you will be able to get it because according to the DWP website you need to be receiving Income Support, ESA or Pension Credit. Unless you're getting Pension Credit or Income Support/ESA with one of the premiums you won't get the cold weather payment.

You only receive CWP if you receive certain out of work benefits.

You can receive the CWP without any premiums if you have a child under 5.

  • Most places have not even triggered. Love the no periods of cold weather reported statements.

We have had one trigger here.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

We haven't been triggered yet despite the local weather station recording -16 the other day! We've had snow since Wednesday too and today is really bad.

It says it's triggered if it's 0 degrees or below for 7 consecutive days, does that mean it wouldn't be triggered if it was -10 for six days then 2 degrees on the seventh?
