Yeah I was just thinking about that jwil! I'd probably eat twice as much because it smelt so good all day!
Well, I'm in my gym gear, just to make sure I go! I hate going straight after work, that's when its at its busiest - takes ages to get there through traffic, can't get parked and its also when all the keen super fit people go! Those people might also go very early on a morning but I've never personally been there to witness it!
Got a transfer from Amazon today for a couple of DVD sales which I've decided to put straight into my "savings". I'm thinking I need to start with an emergency backup fund and also I need to start putting money aside for car tax/service/MoT, presents, maybe a small (tiny!) holiday fund and household emergencies pot. I mean, I'm doing really well paying off my debts, but I literally have no money put aside for other things. When I did my SOA, I estimated how much I spent on average per month on these things - but of course I've never actually saved it, just forked out on the month they're due. I'm just a bit cautious of putting £100 aside each month because that's £100 not towards my debts.

I'm the same, I need to put money away for these things, but I don't at the moment.

I'm back! Think I did okay today, although I don't get as hot and sweaty as I used to! Maybe I'm taking it too easy. Will start to build up.
I've decided I'll put £70 into my savings every month on payday to go towards all those expenses that come up throughout the year. Look at that! I've been decisive
I'm aiming to get another £100 paid off my Virgin card before the end of the month, that will leave a balance of £200 to be paid straight off on payday. I've got £25 coming from an Amazon sale, a couple more NSDs this week should leave a bit of an underspend on my weekly spends budget, now just need to think of a few other ways of raising some cash.
HSBC phoned me today trying to sell me an upgrade on my current account. Only £95 a year he tells me! I'm sorry, but I refuse to pay to have a bank account (even with the so called amazing benefits I'll get). Grr, made me quite cross it did - especially when he didn't want to take no for an answer. I was proud of my MSE resilience! Need to look into mortgages though, think I'd like to get signed up to a fixed deal with the work situation as it is.

Well done on the no-smokes. Everything seems to be going well at the mo for you (job excluded). I need to catch the exercise bug again as I have done nothing this week, you've shamed me with your regime. Keep it upDFD: 23/12/20100

Sounds like you are having a pretty good week! I am ashamed to admit I have one of those 'paying' bank accounts, and it is a complete waste of money! I've used one of the benefits twice in about 10 years, and couldn't now if I wanted to as I've lost the membership card. It's been on my list to close for months now, but I still haven't done it! Though I did manage to pay off the overdraft and close it before they introduced monthly charges. I'm still wasting £10 a month though"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Get that bank account switched jwil! That's a MSE order!
Feeling much better this week. Still have the usual worries but I seem to have turned a corner - most of my stresses I can do something about and those I can't, well, it.doesn't.matter! I'm sure I'll have my wobbles, but doing okay these past few days.
Have discovered an ace app on the iPhone called MyFitnessPal. Its a calorie counter but it gives you a target daily amount and you can also add in any exercise you've done that day etc. So far its keeping me on track anyway - although discovering the amount of coffee I drink is slightly worrying...and perhaps goes some way to explain the insomnia! Must cut down! My healthy cookbook for one *wail* arrived today as well - some things look quite tasty and reasonably straightforward, although I suspect the portion sizes will be tiny. But I'll give it a go.
Money wise, another NSD today. If I can have another tomorrow, then I can definitely enjoy my Friday night out without feeling guilty. Might even have a wee splurge - popcorn and a drink
Emailed Unison today about the voluntary redundancy situation, response was useless so it looks like I'll definitely have to go through the motions of applying for jobs in this restructure otherwise I'll leave with nothing. Obviously that also opens up the possibility that I'll get one of the bloody jobs (or my would be business partner will) which will just be sods law! We got the starter pack from BusinessLink today though so I've printed it off for some bedtime reading.
Another no smoking day and I'm feeling strong, so I'm almost putting last week down as a blip! Can't get complacent, but have hardly been tempted at all. Seeing the nurse tomorrow so will come clean to her (I just can't lie!) and hopefully she'll say I'm about ready to come off the tablets. I don't mind them, but they sometimes give me very vivid dreams![STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Hi Copperjar
Sounds like you are doing really well! Well done!!
See you are nearly a 10th of the way through your pay of £10k in 2011. You should be really proud of yourself for what you have achieved in only 10 days of the new year! It's really good to see your last post sounding so positive.

I will Boss!
Glad you're feeling better. That cookbook for one can be easily multiplied up for two or more, so it's not a big deal when your situation changes
Fingers crossed you and your colleague don't get the jobs (that sounds so weird saying that )
Hope those vivid dreams are at least good ones:D

Thank youI can't quite believe how much I've paid off this month either! Makes me wonder what on earth I used to spend all my money on before - although I've been helped along this month with the car loan having finished and the mortgage going down.

Haha, I know, its crazy to be hoping we don't get a job! Had another meeting about it all today, colleagues reckon they'll just redeploy us into any job, even if its at a much lower level, then they don't have to pay any redundancy at all! I'm hoping that's just them being cynical!
Some of the dreams aren't bad!
Well I went to see the nurse today and she told me off! The last two times I've told her about my wobbles, she's been lovely - this time she gave me a stern talking to! Said if I smoke again I'll have to come off the tablets - oops. I was all set to pour my heart out and tell her all my woes but she said "I won't ask you what's been going on because I know you won't want to talk about it" Anyway, she gave me a little stress ball thing for when I'm feeling fraught and a thing to chew (I feel like a dog!) which is like a more robust penlid. Yes, this is what its come to!
Having said all that, I haven't smoked today despite having a stressy one. January has been like a rollercoaster with my emotions. Was really anxious when I woke up this morning because I knew there'd be a chance I would bump into the ex at work today - I didn't - but it sent me into a bit of a spin. Anyway, think I've worked off the tension now at the gym (oh yes! 2nd time this week) so I'm feeling much better again. Up and down like a bloody yoyo.....[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
ooh, what's the penlid thing? I chew pen lids like nobody's business (it stops people nicking them anyway :rotfl:) Is it something to help with anxiety and stress? Because I could do with something like that at the moment."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do".
