Hi jwil. Its a stop smoking aid but I think it works for anxiety and stress too. I love mine - you can chew it, fiddle with it, pull it apart! I'm finding it quite useful. Its the first time the nurse has given me anything like that - I've already nearly chewed through it! I'll ask the nurse where you can get them next time I'm there.
Hope everything is okay?[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Another weekend is here. Went to the cinema last night to see The Kings Speech (very good) then out for tea, so its been a nice start to the weekend. Have done well with money this week, still have £10 in my purse and have £30 ish left over in my weekly spends to pay towards the CCs. Its a miserable day today so the planned trip into town has been postoned, but I've got my gym stuff on already just to make sure I go a bit later on.
Have been reading a book which has a really good chapter in the middle about setting goals and taking care of yourself. Have learnt all about positive affirmations and other bits and bobs which might be all a load of nonesense, but I'm going to give them a go. The main thing I've learnt is that you have to set yourself goals and targets set in the present, in positive terms and as specific as possible - so instead of "I'm going to stop smoking", you say "I am smoke free" (and I am still smoke free btw!!). Or instead of "I will lose weight and get fit", you say "I go to the gym on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays". Not sure I'm making sense but the book seemed to! So today I need to set some goals based on my NYRs and other plans - but phrase them in the present and in a postive way.

Its probably all hogwash! [/STRIKE]I am a positive person open to new ideas
Right, off to the gym.....[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
I like the gym on a Saturday afternoon, its very quiet. Did my 45 minute routine again and I'm back to the hot-and-sweaty-mess look, so that must mean I'm pushing myself which is good!
Gah, feeling a bit bored now though! Suppose I should write a shopping list, do my positive whatsits, sort my diary for next week. But its Saturday night! There must be something just a little bit more exciting to do [STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Well theres nothing on tv if thats where you are searching for something to entertain you. Never is on a saturday :rotfl:
Good for you getting to the gym. Its becoming part of your life now, which is amazing, and means cakes are guilt free.DFD: 23/12/20100 -
Mmmm, guilt free cakes!
Thanks IWAH - its only been one week of doing the gym thing properly, but I'm feeling pretty motivated. The whole "I go to the gym on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays" mantra seems to be workingI do feel good afterwards as well and its a good place to think/not think, depending on the mood! Still need to check out what classes they have and pluck up the courage to join one.
Usual Sunday chores planned for today. I'm thinking I need to make my Sundays a bit more exciting somehow (Dancing on Ice doesn't count). I'm getting into a routine which in some ways is good, but one of my "things" was to be a bit more impulsive.
(Why do I always create a problem where there isn't one?!)
Have been thinking about my treat this month. I have bought quite a few little things which has been nice and I was going to count as the treat, but I think I want something a bit more treaty for my first one! Something I wouldn't usually buy. A bit frivolous. I've got my eye on a really lovely bit of retro pottery on ebay, but I think it might go too high bidding wise. Or I've also been thinking of some luxurious smellies/bedding/pyjamas. Or something homey that I wouldn't usually buy.
Will have a think as I trundle around the supermarket.....[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Well, shopping done, 3rd load of washing in, Sunday lunch made and eaten (aren't roast parsnips the best thing?!) and rubbish celeb reality tv just about to start. Told you I needed to get a life!
I underspent on my weekly spends budget (which admittedly is slightly excessive!) so have paid what was left onto my Virgin card. I'd like to get another £60 paid off that this month, leaving a balance of £200! That card is a reminder of when things started going badly wrong with the ex and I was spending irrationally to cheer myself up (although I have nothing to show for it), so it will be such a boost to get it paid off. In more ways than one. Then I can concentrate on the Santander one. I wish I knew how I managed to get that one so high mind youThe co-op loan is the other debt that was run up whilst with the ex (I'm not blaming her - it was me doing the spending!), so it would be fab if I could get it paid off early. I know that might be hard with the job situation, but it's something to aim for.
One week fully smoke free. I'm back on track![STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
YES! YES THEY ARE!! (The more burnt the better too).
Well done on being smoke free, you are doing really well. Also the underspend and being able to pay extra off your credit card too, it won't be long now until it is gone. I am having to turn the ice skating off, as I didn't watch last week and have just noticed Kerry Chavtona is on there, I cannot abide her so can no longer watch it until she is off. In fact I think 2 hours is much better spent reading or doing something else anyway so off the tv goes.
Keep up the good work this week, you are doing really well, and good luck with the gym too (not that you need it as it is now part of your routine).DFD: 23/12/20100 -
I am rich, I am rich, I am rich ....
:D Do you think it will work?
Actually I think there is a lot in the whole positive thinking malarkey, if nothing else it gets you up and focussed towards making something happen.
Well done on being a non-smoker!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Jwil - the 'I am rich' mantra is being chanted hourly!
Thanks IWAH. Definitely agree about the Katona woman, she's just awful. I'll let you know when she's knocked out (of the competition...not by a bang on the head...although...)
Apparently today is officially the most depressing day of the year. Mine wasn't too bad, was quite motivated at work for once, but it slowly started fading at lunch time and was completely gone by 3pm! Still, at least I remained focussed for half a day. Got an email from Business Link with some free training/conference days coming up. Think there's a couple that would be useful for me and would-be-business-partner. Still feel like we haven't really moved forward with anything, just lots of talking about it, mixed with panicking about losing our jobs. We really need to sit down and actually focus on it for a sustained period of time! I guess its easier not to actually look at it all properly, then we can't be disappointed or can't chicken out - but we really need to stop burying our heads.
"On a Wednesday, I work on my business plan"
Oooh, nearly forgot, weighed in this morning - I've lost 2lb! Think my scales are slightly dodgy, but I'm taking it![STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
A nice slice with a skate chopping her head off would do me. Although I wouldn't want them to actually show it on tv. I would probably have enjoyed the series if it hadn't been spoilt big time with her presence. It was the first time I was going to give it a chance too.
Surely they got the dates wrong because last monday was hell on earth!!
Your scales cannot be wrong. Or if they are then they were out before too, so you still have lost 2lbs, well done, dreading the weigh in when I sort the scales out.
Good luck with the business courses and I hope you and your partner find enough time to make good progress soon.DFD: 23/12/20100
