    Hi copperjar,

I remember the 6 month period between first finding out about redundancies and then the final heave ho and it was awful. It was like the whole department was in some sort of limbo. I was an employee representative so at least I got to know things first but it was still very difficult.
I wish you luck in whatever life brings you. Who knows how it will pan out... it is going to be a case of making the most of it. I am sure you will succeed.
    Hugs

    Thanks guys :)

Its been a long day! Finally sat down to relax at 8.30 and is there anything on telly to keep me entertained?! No!
Have been in York all day for work which passed the time but used 1/4 tank of petrol. Annoying. We had the usual talk from the Assistant Director about the restructure which was a bit depressing - I wish it was just over and done with. Got home late but still managed to make the gym so I'm quite chuffed with myself. Was hard going tonight mind you...

Not much to update MSE wise. I listed an item on eBay on Sunday which sold on a BiN today so need to get that sent off in the morning. And my money from Amazon for a sale earlier in the month is due in my account tomorrow, so I'll pay that straight off the Virgin card. In some ways, I'm wishing the month away so I can get to pay day and get the Virgin card cleared once and for all. In other ways, I don't want Feb to arrive because that's when the interviews are taking place at work. I'm in a quandry as to whether to put work in for them or not. I don't want to make a fool of myself, but on the other hand, I don't really want the job!

Getting together with my friend, colleague and would be business partner tomorrow night to start..erm...something. I think we really need to start figuring out if it is actually feasible or is just a pipedream. A takeaway might also be involved :p

    Hi copperjar,

I am a great believer in covering every base and I would say Yes to putting some work into the interviews - you just never know what is ahead of you and you really don't want to waste any chances these days. A steady job with a regular income is like gold dust these days and oh,so important when you are trying to be debt free.

    IMHO, for what it's worth.
    Have a good day

Thanks SA :) I definitely think you're right; also the interview panel will consist of senior managers so I don't want to make a fool of myself - you never know when I might need their help in future!

Another uneventful day at work, this week is dragging!

Been to the gym tonight, didn't fancy it for the first time since I started properly again, so I'm glad I managed to force myself into it! I'm doing pretty well with my 45 min routine, think I'll up it next week, maybe try using the rowing machine as well.

Me and my friend finally started properly looking at our business plan. We realised that we are struggling with the details and all the things that need to be sorted before we can really get going. We've booked ourselves onto one of the courses I mentioned the other day, then I really think we might have to bite the bullet and pay to see an accountant. We need financial advice so we know how to set our pricing structure, on-costs for staffing etc. Can't do much without that.

    I'm scared!! _pale_

Good news on the debt busting front. Paid an extra bit off the credit card today from an eBay sale and that took me over £700 paid off the CCs this month! I can't believe it! I want to get an extra £82.14 paid off this month - that means I'll hit my (I thought unrealistic) target. Hurrah! Been thinking about when I should update my signature, it looks a bit daft with the 'pay off £10k' line showing a lot more than the rest, but I tend to update the others at the end of the month. Not that it matters, but worrying about trivial things like that takes my mind off scary things like a business!! :p

    copperjar,

What are those business enterprise things that they are always going on about - where people are encouraged to set up a new business and are give help? Or am I imagining something that doesn't exist? It must be exciting though, thinking about taking a big step in an entirely new direction. I am excited for you.

Thank you :) You're not imagining it SA - but try getting some practical advice and its impossible. My local advisors are Yorkshire Business Link, we've booked a course through them and have been sent quite a bit of info, but it would be so useful if we could just sit down and talk to someone! There's just so much information, its hard to know where to start. I'm planning this weekend to go through everything I've got so far and see if I can make a bit more sense of it.

Good luck ;) I have to say though that I enjoy getting my teeth stuck into something that takes my mind of "other things". When I have been obsessing about my personal life, as I tend to do from time to time, I love it when something else appears that allows me to take my mind off the obsessing and channel it into something far more positive. I am like that at the moment with planning on how to finish off doing my flat up and getting the last of the bits and bobs that I have been dreaming of for ages.
It does worry me how many of these public service organisations (such as the Enterprise scheme) will disappear with the Government cuts. Doom and gloom.... not good for the first day of a weekend, cheer up SA :D
You have a good day copperjar.

  • Hi SA :) I think part of my problem re the business thing is that I'm being a big scardy cat, so I'm trying to get busy with other things so I don't think about that! That has to change this weekend.

Don't get me started on this Government, I could rant for pages and pages about them. I'm not sure the general public are aware of just how awful things are likey to get, I really think we might get mass protests when the cuts start really effecting people. Public reaction to the planned closure of so many libraries has taken the bigwigs by surprise - just wait until care services are slashed and the health service cuts hit. There could be chaos. What gets me is that the Government and MPs are just bare faced lying to the public - what they say is utter nonesense.
Stop me!! I could go on for hours!

Was woken up this morning by Jehovas Witnesses knocking at the door. Sent them off with a flea in their ear because I had literally just woken up and was grouchy! 9am on a Saturday morning. Ridiculous!!

Shopping or gym? That's todays question....

  • Both are possible, aren't they?

What worries me is when the effects of the cuts are irreversible and things can't be put right by successive governments.
I do think that Labour over borrowed and squandered a lot of money, especially in the benefits sector. I am truly horrified and angry at the amount of material posessions that some of my 100% benefit funded neighbours have. There is me, doing two jobs, living hand to mouth and saving for months to get a damaged fridge freezer off a clearance site. My next door neighbours have two dogs, three cats, a TV in every room (large plasma sets) and two computers. I just don't get it. You should hear the window cleaner going on about them. He must have seen inside the flat and what they have got.
I fully appreciate that we must have Social Security but it seems that some people can play the system and get very well rewarded for it. Rant over.
Have a good afternoon, whatever you decide to do. I have just been out to buy some fresh flowers from the market. Always cheers me up.
    Hugs
