Natwest has the best online banking. The rest are behind them. HSBC have been changing theirs in the past week. Every other bank is better than Santander.

HSBC has good online banking with fast payments as well.
  • Which of the online banking accounts display pending transactions on your debit or credit card? Perhaps even those "authorisations" done by hotels etc?

I think all show you your available balance, but they don't show the individual transactions.
  • First Direct has the highest Net Promoter score in the industry for its online banking.

Thanks for that. So no Online Bank provides this service? What about credit card companies and their websites?

    As the title says.

Also, I'm looking to move from Santander in the new year and I'm torn between First Direct and Halifax. I had a bad experience with Halifax and I don't really want to go there - plus I'm not keen on their online service.

    Any thoughts?

Halifax's online banking will be changing in January.

From what I have seen of it, I think it will be a better system for the most basic users - if you just want to view statements etc it's a more up-to-date looking screen. However, it's lacking some of the more advanced functionality that Halifax currently offers.

Remember that if you go with Halifax, many branches are offering £50 or £100 to open the account, so it's worth going in and asking or phoning up before just applying online.
  • I like the Lloyds TSB online banking and Santander also (very detailed info of the transactions)
