As the title says.
Also, I'm looking to move from Santander in the new year and I'm torn between First Direct and Halifax. I had a bad experience with Halifax and I don't really want to go there - plus I'm not keen on their online service.
Any thoughts?

Accounts with Egg, HSBC, Halifax and Lloyds.
HSBC is best.0 -
I have banked with Barclays, A&L (Santander), First Direct, and currently bank with Natwest and Lloyds, and my favourite online service is Natwest, followed by Lloyds a close second.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Wow, very quick replies!
Ok, out of those, who do you reckon has the best account regarding an incentive to join with good overdraft rates?

HSBC and FirstDirects online banking are similar (I believe).
FirstDirect give you £100 for transferring your current account to them..
£250 interest free overdraft.
However, it requires £1500 a month to go into the account (and you must prove over past 3 months this has happened).

And if you are constantly in your overdraft each month you should think about doing a Statement of Affairs, seeing where you could possibly cut down and get out of an overdraft.

i have a/c with natwest. FD, A+L and lloyds and santander. For best online experience, its very close between natwest and FD. Santander is basic as is A+L.
However some banks ask your full password on every login, so if there is a keylogger on ur computer its not very good. i think out of above list these are santander, A+L and FD.
My annoyance with lloyds is that i have multiple a/cs and you need to set up each payee separately on each account. which seems a bit daft to me.0 -

Thanks for your reply - I read http://www.lovemoney.com/news/get-the-best-deal/current-accounts/top-current-accounts-to-suit-your-lifestyle-10238.aspx?source=1000579#txt_139041 and it says that you can pay in £1,500 or take on another product to qualify for the £100.
Do you know if this is the case?Debt free May 2012 - but starting from scratch.0 -
The additional qualifying product is required if you want FD to waive the monthly £10 fee on the account - not related to the £100 incentive.rawkinrich wrote: »Thanks for your reply - I read http://www.lovemoney.com/news/get-the-best-deal/current-accounts/top-current-accounts-to-suit-your-lifestyle-10238.aspx?source=1000579#txt_139041 and it says that you can pay in £1,500 or take on another product to qualify for the £100.

See "Banking Fee" http://www1.firstdirect.com/1/PA_1_1_S5/content/firstdirect/pws/assets/pdf/nov_terms.pdf;jsessionid=0000rvDUD-wNF93k-O68Bzbn1Ch:11jkg7sus0 -

No, you've misread what the article says. You can avoid the £10/month banking fee if you either pay in £1500/month or take on another product, but you will only qualify for the £100 joining incentive if you pay in £1500/month for the first three (iirc) months.0
