  • I used www.executivehomeinsurance.co.uk for my watch, they are very reasonable.

I'm moving to Greece for the summer to work in a jewellry shop and I want to take my jewellery with me. The trouble is that I have no idea how I can insure it - I'm renting my house out and currently living with my mother so my house/contents insurance won't cover it. Travel insurance doesn't cover anything of high value (that I've found so far) so does anyone have any other ideas? Can I take out some kind of special policy? I have seven items worth a total of about £5500 - the highest value is about £2000.
I will be getting new valuations on them before I go but I'd really, really like to get them insured!
    Many thanks,

Best bet might be to get the insurance in Greece.
UK policies will have restrictions like only covering items temporarily removed from home as opposed to permanently away from home while working abroad.
Either that or find something for ex-pats.

i would like to insure my engagement ring, however when i called my home insurance company they wanted to double by premium.... is there a cheaper way to do this?
where can i receive a competitive quote
  • Hi - good question. We'd also be very grateful for any advice re: insurance of an engagement ring. Is it generally better to do it at the same time as house contents insurance (something we are doing now) or go to a separate provider for ring insurance (in which case - can you recommend some companies please ?). Many thanks

  • I am buying a ring from Goldsmiths and they offer 'Sterling Care', has anyone purhcased one of these policies and can give their opinion on it?

I am looking to insure the ring but my fiancee and I don't live together and i wonder if i can insure it under my contents insurance - any ideas? Thanks.

For sentimental jewellery, particularly where if lost you would not replace, there is the option to not insure separately.

I have one item where the costs of insuring as a separate item would be £40+ each year, but if lost I doubt I would replace. My insurance limit would mean I would get half its value back if it was lost. Sufficient to buy a nice item but not a direct replacement.

I have a friend who puts a valuable ring in her children's colouring box as she reckons thats the last place a burglar would look.

  • My husband was given a very expensive watch from his father and I struggle to find insurers but last year stumbled upon Greenbee which are part of John Lewis they beat my existing premium buy £300 and were excellent this year when I needed to claim for one of my rings my daughter lost. They don't require a safe and the cover is amazing.
  • Thanks, Moss_T, you have just saved us over £250!

We have our house and contents insurance with Saga, who originally seduced us with a £400k rebuild cover. Unfortunately my wife's jewellery bumped the insurance cost up over the years: the demand for this January was an eyewatering £648.

This thread came up on Google so we went to Greenbee (AXA). They offer unlimited buildings and contents cover, with £20k valuables. We chose £10k valuables away from home which should do us fine. The cost is £394, a massive saving on Saga, so we went for it. Recommended.

Oh yes, and an additional £4 for paying by Egg Money. I can't understand why people think I'm mean. I'm just careful.
  • hi this is my first post so i hope this is the right place to put it.
I have a similar problem - i have 3 pieces of jewellery which are over the £1500 limit, they are currently insured as specified items on my legal & general contents policy. BUT - i would like to search out a comparitive quote as the £1100 they are quoting to renew seems rather expensive considering i have never claimed for anything in my whole life. i also have a few other bits that need specifing such as laptops & cameras. i have tried to do the confused.com comparison but it stops at the specified items page as it wont allow a total over 6k. i would be really grateful if anyone has any suggestions?
