  • You could try Halifax
unlimited contents. You can specify high value items. I found that you could amend the figure up to £15,000 at no extra cost...the high risk items covers stuff up to the value of £2000 anything above you need to add as a specified item.

Saved me a £150 even with the extra £40 cover for emergencies.

If not M&S are normally pretty good

AXA are very competitive on p/b an high value item premiums, again you will have to specify this item, but no fight to get settlement if your claim is genuine.

just inherited a ring worth around £8000 I am far from rich and this is worth more than everything else in my house and my car!....well I have my contents policy already and it has a £1500 limit….but it runs out next week, so I am looking for a good company that will cover this amount on a single item.

I do not want a separate cover, has anyone added an item of this amount to there policy?

    Thank you,

I have previously placed business with expensive rings that have been covered at no extra cost (inside home) , but they had to be specified ( and best get valuation / photo's done) and the total contents (including this item) was within the set figure ( ie standard £30 or £40K) ...

HOWEVER if need cover for taking the item out of the house it will be charged extra as a specified item / all risks

Does anyone know of any companies that specialise in insuring high value items of jewellery - current household insurance company won't insure anything over a certain value so not covered enough just now....

  • Are you looking for buildings and contents or just contents, and if so what sum insured are you looking at? some companies will insure high value jewellry but not always on a contents only policy, they will want the buildings as well.
  • There a quite a few who specilise in high value jewellery but most will need to cover all your contents as well.

Most insurance through banks have high wet worth schemes through specialist underwriters, just go into your bank or call their standard insurance centre and ask to be put through to their high net worth department.

Try Hiscox - they do specialist high net worth policies.
You should also look at Chubb corporation of America. They have a UK division and do standalone policies.

I got my insurance here and added on items over the single item limit.
No connection and no claims experience but I know you can add individual items (like jewelry and bicycle on the quote page and set your own limit for personal possessions).

We recently bought a small safe (like you get in a hotel room) from screwfix direct for £15 plus postage (about £20 from aldi).
We have bolted it to the floorboards.

If your insurers require a safe for the storage of jewellerey before granting cover then your little safe will not pass the test I fear.
Insurers will specify a safe with an ABIS rating. ABIS = Association of Burglary Insurance Surveyors (although I seem to recall they changed name recently).

Normally, the manufacturers quote the cash rating as say £1,000 and insurers permit 10 x this amount for jewelery and valuables. A 10k cash safe will give you £100k cover.
Safes will either be underfloor or freestanding.
Wall safes are useless as are the little hotel safes and floorboard safes. They carry no cash rating.

As I say, all this only applies if your insurers are saying you need to install a safe before we will grant theft cover for jewelery not being worn.

No we have done this for our own reasons.

Personally I don't think one that is attached to something fairly secure is useless (otherwise I wouldn't have got one).

It's not just about insurance it's also about keeping "worthless" items of sentimental value.

I guess a thief could start chopping up our floorboards (if they found the safe) but my understanding is that most burglarys last a few minutes and the noise they would make and the time they would have to spend would probably be enough of a deterrent.
If not, and they get past the locks, the alarm and the safe then that's what he insurance is for (but they won't be able to claim we were negligent).
