There is a very long (5 page) article here from the Telegraph which explains how the Hamper business works and what went wrong with Farepak :

Looks like the greed of the banks has a lot to do with this,if i was a customer with these money grabbing b*stards my accounts would be switched immedietely.
  • I have just successfully made a chargeback claim from Abbey for all payments I had made to FArepak using my Visa Debit Card - they were extremely helpful with me and couldnt have done more - the total amount was over £700 and it will be in my bank within 5 days!!!!!

Not having the same joy however with Lloyds TSB (used my boyfriends card for some payments) - they are very unhelpful and dont really seem to understand much of what is being said to them on the phone. I think it may be an overseas call centre. Hopefully I can get this sorted although the amount is around £200 so at least I am able to recover the majority of my money.

    Big thumbs up for Abbey
Tin can banky - 3/4 full £1 and £2, Quidco January £19.49, Boots points 2543, Tesco Club Card 2763, Piggy Points 840

Really pleased for you. I wish I had some sort of comeback from Direct Debits as all my payments bar 2 were made by DD - the other 2 were done through their website using my solo card & I've got nothing to come back on.

I think in the future if I pay for anything upfront again - I'll do it using my Credit Card & pay it off straight away!

The thing's I've learnt from all this Farepak business is unbelievable!

I too have just checked my bank account and been sucessful in a visa DEBIT card chargeback. I sent a letter to my bank about 2 weeks ago asking them to put this process in action
I am afraid to take money out however, in case they come back and say they made a mistake????????

I am pleased this worked for you.I had a call last week from my bank saying no to this as they said they would have to wait till the administrators sorted out what we are getting back ,will be right on to them again in the morning
  • I read on an article somewhere that your bank MUST process your request for this chargeback and if they don't you can contact the ombudsman. It also said that the bank only have to pay you back IF they get the money back, but so far there are 2 people here saying they are getting their money back so they must be getting it.
