Hi TYO,
If the big resort companies (Harrahs and MGM) ever get out of their current indebtedness (I know how they feel!) then Vegas will likely be plenty different anyway. Since we were there last July, there's been about 5 massive projects completed (tropicana renovation, Plaza renovation, lake las Vegas getting a new casino, the Cosmopolitan opening and the upgrading of two of the outlet malls) and this has been the slowest in terms of change! you'll love it!
Cheers,

I'm so jealous you are off to Vegas soon, hope you have a great time!

Thanks Jock and US...
And good evening to everyone else in the world!
Without wishing the next 24 hours away, we'll (all things being equal) be somewhere approaching Yankee airspace this time tomorrow. Really looking forward to everything Vegas now. I'm just about to pack the iPad so I'll keep a mini MSE daily update of our gambling success (or otherwise) - if only to give future slot junkies a fair idea of which machines to avoid! Thus far, no losses other than a terrible $1.56 to the pound!
Quick update on the money. We've gone with a little less spending money to get us to the acquired debt target of £5,000. We're at around £1,800 on our credit card (instead of the planned £0) but now definitely on course for being debt free by October (or, whisper it quietly, September)
Hope everyone has a great couple of weeks. I'll report back in some detail once we're home.
Cheers,

Arrived safely. Predictably, woke up bright as a button at 3am! Thankfully, i have the Open to occupy me just now to break in the first four days. I'll give it half an hour before I wake Moyra up - the slots are calling...

Cheers Froggy - up, been to the gym, ready to hit the pool for some sun then we'll get our gamble on, a trip to the buffet and the first wee bit of shopping. Moyra is in the shower just now so I've got a bit of time to kill. It's a year to the day since Moyra's granny died so the 4 of us are having a Bellagio themed day today as she loved the fountains.

Morning All,
Progress! Up at the far more reasonable 5am today. I'm thinking that using the Open to assist me through the first four days of what I call reverse jet lag might just be a good move for future years.
Busy day yesterday saw us get up to Planet Hollywood for some shopping (mainly shoes, trainers and half the stock of Urban Outfitters), food (the spice Market buffet has really gone downhill) and a wee shot at the free press your luck competition (Moyra won $50, I got nothing). We popped over for the first visit of the year to Bellagio where Moyra decided she needs the big house to have a strong Bellagio theme (see also running about loudly oohing and aahing at everything and anything with a swirly B on it). Purchase of the day was a $50 Christmas tree bauble with the fountains of Bellagio on it.
I should explain Moyra's gambling strategy. She'll play $5 per machine and cash out when she gets to either $10 or any multiple of 5 above that. She'll then start with a new $5 whilst the "winnings" go into a guilt free shopping fund. Being mse's, we're obviously not high rollers or serious gamblers so our budget of $125 each per day is all we're allowed to play with. We do expect to lose the money we gamble with but, following Moyra's guide, you never lose it all and know exactly when to walk away. We see it as a fair trade off that we'll ordinarily lose a bit of money over the course of the gamble but have a lot of fun (and more than a few free drinks) along the way. The aim of every holiday is to win enough to cover our shopping without tapping the credit card. There's always a budget for shopping set aside but, in 6 previous visits, we've never yet had to use it as the winnings have always seen us right...
We only managed to start gambling late in the day @ Monte Carlo. Having invested $40, we came out with $35 to add to the shopping fund. We got some snacks and headed home to Tropicana where we played another $60 and won $25. Good slots today were Cats Miaow, winning bid, winning bid 2 and super sally's shrimpmania. The bad guys were airplane, monopoly jackpot city and jackpot block party. So, for a total gamble of $100, we're at a shopping fund of $110 - take that Vegas!
Cheers,
