Mortgage Free - so good they'll do it twice! Wynnvegas aiming for the big house

Billy you would be more than justified in calling it a day on the financial assistance given what you have already done. You may well have reached the position here in which they are almost taking the P out of you in reality. Logic says thatvthey were paying both cards or loans before, so only paying you a hundred means they are choosing to spend a little on themselves. Doesn't sound like they have learned much from it all???RosieTiger - Highest £242,000 Feb 2004

Hey Billy
Hmmmm...the family situation sounds a tough one! Im all for helping out where possible and I can only imagine the spiral you can end up with more and more debt thinking "whats the point" but I can understand your annoyance (that would be an understatement!!) about feeling slightly that they havent been honest. What's Moyras view on it all?
Think a time down the pub suggestion sounds a good one!
Plans for vegas sounds good as does the shopping spree! Will take a look back to see if Ive missed it but where are you at with the big house plans? every time I see grand designs I wonder!!0 -
Thanks Sepa,
Just caught up with SS and her goings on. I'd have kicked up one he'll of a fuss if Moyra was working against my best plans. Thankfully, she's pretty well trained so at least there's no issues between us.
Cheers,

Hi RT,
I temper my disappointment with the knowledge that we didn't really have a choice in the matter. It's just a shame that they couldn't have been honest with us as it has created a wee bit of a barrier that was never there before. There's no way we could be in a position to help and still take the decision to consign them to a lifetime of scrimping, struggling and saving.
We've certainly learnt the lessons about helping other people and we won't be half as quick to jump in next time. I don't know that they've changed much at all as, even without the £14k we took away and are still paying a good portion of that off, things don't seem that much better so there may yet be more to the story that we don't know about.
Cheers,

Hi TYO,
Moyra isn't for getting involved at all. She's really close to her mum and dad and finds it difficult to talk to either me or them about it. She did get annoyed that they'd left it so long to accumulate a couple of thousand in charges and interest but has since closed herself off from it. I have had to catch myself from saying something nasty when she's on about shopping sprees and the like but that's my issue and, as I said, it was my decision to help them out so it would be a bit off and crass to vent. That's the beauty of a like minded Internet forum.
Minor progress with the land hunt and a couple of revisions to the plans on the big house. Waiting on plots coming through so we're gearing up for some real progress ASAP!
Cheers,

Afternoon all,
And T-7 days to Vegas! This time next week, we'll be jostling to get on the plane at Heathrow. It's clearly been a hard year as I feel like I need a holiday rather than just fancy one. We've got a few days in St. Andrews to look forward to when we get back and a wee trip down the that England as Moyra fancies another crack at the Old Trafford Centre and I've got a bit of work to do about an hour further down the road. Managed to sneak a cheeky £154.34 quidco in with booking various hotel rooms and the like for this month which is a bit of a winner. I've got a wee bonus coming for referring a piece of work into the Company, Moyra's exam money will hit in July or August to help wipe out the still existent (and ever annoyingly so) debt and I'll need to work out what to ask for in my review as that's now overdue but we traditionally do it in August and backdate things to June.
Caught up with a few diaries today for the first time in ages. Glad to see the mortgage freedom bug is both biting new people and not dwindling in the longstanding efforts! I'm pretty sure ol' Martin must fancy stealing a few of these diaries for publishing - the joy, despair, harrowing tales, mutual support and assistance, guidance, carmeraderie and, mostrecently, ups, downs and dog bites, are endlessly inspiring, entertaining and heartbreaking.

Hello,
Just caught up with your story which is similar but on a bigger scale. It is just impossible to criticise a partner's family without causing hurt. But I don't need to say it to know that I won't get involved in handing over any more money. Have a wonderful time in Vegas and forget about it all,
SquirrelPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

Yup, !!!!!!!! to the lot of them. Have a great time. Put $5 on red for me
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Morning Squirrel,
I tihink we're all learning lessons the hard way. Unfortunately, not helping is not in my nature but we've really put ourselves out here and feeling like we've been taken for a ride isn't at all nice. The bank of Billy has closed!!
