I also dislike how it feels when it's not been washed, I don't feel clean even if the rest of me is.

    That is so true.

Even if the oil exuded by follicles does eventually self-regulate if left unwashed - and have my doubts that it does - it is bound to smell very unpleasant indeed.

    Interesting thread.

I used to wash and blow dry my hair every single day... Time consuming and annoying. I went thru a depressed phase a few months ago and couldn't be bothered to blowdry my hair but left it to dry naturally... I got more comments about how nice my hair looked even tho i thought it looked a mess!!

Also, I found that when I wasn't blowdrying it, it looked the same the next day! So I started washing it every other day, and not blowdrying it at all.

Now I wash it and leave it to dry, it looks fine the next day, and the 3rd day I tie it back! Must be saving a fortune on shampoo, conditioner, products and elec for blowdrying :D:D:D

One (very trendy) friend came yesterday and commented on how nice my hair looks so balls to all that effort in future.
  • Twice a week for me, I could stretch to once a week if necessary but it starts to look obviously greasy.

Oh, and if you tie it back and put a big flower clip in it, it looks like you made a big effort :D

    Ready to go "uuuuurrrrgggghhhh"?

I have long-ish hair (mid-back). It is not coloured, and only sees a hairdryer about once a year. I wash it once every two weeks on average.

But I have tried this "don't wash for a month" idea and it did work for me - after getting through the 2-3 week ickiness, my hair looked lovely again and was really easy to manage. And no, it didn't smell (why would it?)

  • Every other day. Sometimes every day. My hair is very greasy, so it's dependent on how greasy it is...

Every other day, and I use batiste dry shampoo on the days in between. Can sometimes last an extra day using that if I really don't feel like washing it, but my hair gets greasy quickly around my forehead.

Hats off to you (excuse the pun) but unless you live in a field and never ever come into conact with any air pollution, never sweat ever (this includes getting slightly warm, you don't actually produce enough sweat to notice, btu your body is still excreting some fluids to cool you down). But for the exact same reason you'd wash your body if you had a period, I cannot see myself being able to take this up- I don't wash my hair for two days and it hurts, its lank and feels strangly painful when it moves.

I do go to the gym and sweat alot when I am there so feel the need to shower every time I go. But when I take a rest day, the day after the missed day has my hair feeling heavy and not looking or feeling as light.

I think hair does get used to whatever you throw at it- when I was little I used to wash it once or twice a week, at uni twice a week and it was fine then. I don't think I could ever go for a month without washing it though- would be too irritating and painful and yes, it would smell bad!

Twice a week. My hair is long and naturally curly so I can get away with tying it back or tying it up.

When it was shorter and in a style, I'd have to wash and do it everyday.

When we go on holiday I do wash it everyday, but that's because of the heat and because I have the time to spend doing it once its been washed.
